This planet belongs to ALL species, not just humans. 🦋🐝🌳
We share Earth with incredible creatures—pollinators that keep our food growing, forests that breathe for us, and oceans teeming with life. But human actions are pushing many species to the brink.🌿💔
It is time to respect, protect, and restore the balance. Every choice we make-what we consume and how we care for nature-matters.
🌍Will you stand for all species? 🐞

Reflections on indigenous Environmental Science.

Throughout my environmental science degree, I have been challenged to rethink what I thought I knew. One of the most powerful learning experiences came from studying Indigenous knowledge systems and their deep connection to sustainability.
In one of my assessments, I explored how Indigenous and Indigenist perspectives have reshaped my understanding of environmental management. Reading Dark Emu (Pascoe, 2018) challenged the outdated notion of Indigenous Australians as solely hunter-gatherers, revealing sophisticated agricultural systems that predated European settlement. Learning about Raw Law (Watson, 2014) deepened my appreciation of Indigenous legal systems, which are rooted in relationships with the land. These insights transformed my perspective: sustainability isn't just about managing resources; it is about respecting and learning from those who have cared for country for millennia.
One critical moment was studying the Wild rivers Act dispute, Which highlighted how policies, even those with good intentions, can marginalise Indigenous communities if they are not actively involved. This reinforced the importance of inclusion, equity, and Indigenous sovereignty in environmental decision-making.
At the start of this journey, I saw Acknowledgement of Country as a symbolic gesture. Now, I understand it is a practice that carries deep meaning—a way to connect, listen, and honour Indigenous knowledge. This shift in my cultural competency has shaped how I approach environmental stewardship.

What are your thoughts? Have you encountered Indigenous perspectives that challenged your understanding of sustainability? Let's start a conversation!👇💭
