I'm Julie Bell, mother, doula, herbalist and activist. I have been working with herbs since childhood and my days as a Registered Nurse in New Zealand. I spent 17 years as a humanitarian volunteer worker in Asia, where I was introduced to the amazing materia medica of Traditional Chinese Medicine and the Ayurveda tradition of India. My family then emigrated to Australia in 2004, where, after havin

g three homebirths myself, I followed my passion for birthwork and trained as a doula. I have been serving birthing families in Australia since 2006. After the birth of my 4th baby (yes, also at home - and when I was 43!), I had the opportunity to commence formal studies in Western Herbal Medicine and obtained an Advanced Diploma in WHM. My goal is to upgrade that to the Bachelor degree ( - but first, I need to help another child through her VCE!)

Suffice to say, I LOVE herbs and the way this most humble part of creation holds such gifts to ease the path of human life. Herbs have been called "God's pharmacy" and it's amazing how nature provides gentle, wholesome remedies for just about every challenge or condition life presents. Blissful Herbs offers delicious teas, fragrant bath sachets, healing salves and herbal tinctures to support and nurture you through the seasons of life - from Maiden, to Mother, to Maga, to Crone: throughout menarche, pregnancy, birth, breastfeeding, menopause and beyond. It's my heart to walk gently on this beautiful planet, so here at Blissful Herbs, we try our best to to be an authentically eco-friendly enterprise, using post-consumer, recycled packaging, sourcing organic herbs and other ingredients as locally as possible and using solar power as possible. It's a cold, wet, rainy, wintry day.

The clouds are low over the hills as I look out over the valley.

Inside, the woodstove is making the room cozy - and drying wet laundry.

The cat is curled up in a ball by the fire, showing us that we should all make like cats to enjoy life.

It's a perfect day for making things!

So, I dug some bags of frozen organic elderberries out of the freezer & went to work.

This Elderberry Syrup is amazing to have at hand for when coughs, colds & sniffles strike.

As you can see, I make these up in small batches.

My advice is - snag some now, and keep it in the fridge - or freeze in ice cube trays for longer keeping.

Then, if illness visits your household, you won't run the risk that I might be out of stock, or have to wait for shipping.

Today, I also made up more of my Shifaa range of alcohol-free tinctures - today's batch was the Placenta Release - with glycetracts plus apple cider vinegar extracts, it actually tastes quite nice, in a sweet-sour way.

So, it's been a quiet, cozy, and productive winter's day here at Blissful Herbs.

Huz is off panning for gold in some freezing stream somewhere (I know, I know, I've learned not to ask 🤪) and the teen lad is working at his pizza cafe job, to raise money for his flight lessons.

For something completely different, tomorrow I'm going to see a concert! It's by the Low Rez & Decibelles choirs - look them up - they're hilarious, talented and super entertaining!

Suprise breech presentation at a birth centre.

Mother did so well, beautifully handled by the midwives.

My only note is, to calm the energy once baby is born safe & sound. Mother needs that birth pause to integrate, SEE her baby & realize all is well. Then, the move to the bed so both can rest.

But, the main thing is: an expected, straightforward breech birth, and isn't it good to see what's possible.

A surprise breech baby showed up at a birth center and nobody hit the panic button.

No shouting.

No flood of people running into the room.

The midwives assessed the situation, stayed calm, and caught the baby.

That doesn’t mean breech birth is risk-free.

It means skilled providers know the difference between an emergency and needing different skills.

We’ve trained an entire generation to believe that the mere sight of a breech baby should trigger chaos.

But for most of human history, breech babies were born before ultrasound, before operating rooms, and before anyone could schedule a cesarean six weeks in advance.

What changed wasn’t the existence of breech babies.

What changed was our confidence in supporting them.

The most shocking part of this video isn’t that the baby was breech.

It’s that everyone remained calm.

And in today’s birth culture, that’s apparently controversial.

Umbilical cord ties are such a nice alternative to the plastic clamps. So much more soft & gentle sitting on bubs precious little tummys (and they’re so gorgeous, you can bet I was excited buying a flower one for the first time 🌸) I always get mine from the wonderful Chris Kole blissfulherbs 🌿✨
