At age three, children experience massive, rapid developmental leaps in language, emotion, and independence.
It takes a huge amount of neurological energy, and sometimes that internal growth outpaces their physical ability to self-regulate.
When a child is navigating a big leap, their body gives us clues that their nervous system is under strain. We might notice things like:
💫Sensory hyper reactivity
💫Sleep distributions
💫Emotional whiplash
💫Physical restlessness
Think of their nervous system as a communication highway between the brain and the body. During a developmental leap, their brain is rapidly rewiring itself. If there is underlying physical tension or structural strain, it can create a traffic jam on that highway. When the brain and body can’t communicate clearly, the system perceives it as stress, triggering that classic survival mode fight or flight response.
By recognising the signs of a strained system, and gently clearing that physical tension, we can help little ones shift out of survival mode back into their natural, thriving baseline.
