We're bringing back 1999 prices to make a point ☝️
Fresh produce isn't expensive.
It only looks expensive when retailers choose not to pass savings on 💰

Produce markets regularly experience gluts when favourable growing conditions create abundant supply.
Faced with oversupply, growers can either plough crops back into the ground or sell them cheaply.

At Box Divvy, when farmers drop their prices, we pass those savings directly to members 👍😁

There's another side to the story. In some cases, farmers are receiving the same price for their produce today as they did 27 years ago, despite massive increases in diesel, fertiliser and labour costs 👩‍🌾 🌱 🚜

This week's 1999 Price Rollback is celery from Manuel Xerri.
He's asking just 80¢ a bunch, and we're passing it on for 99¢
The exact same price Woolworths advertised on 25 August 1999 🤯

99¢ in 2026 for real 👍😁

Hunter Valley has a heavy supply of 600g eggs as their young flock gets into the swing of laying 🐣 We have agreed to help them out, and you’re the beneficiary.

We’re selling them for $5.58 per dozen. That's 30% less than the 700g carton price 👍😁

Hunter Valley runs the farm at a low flock density of 950 hens per hectare 🐥 🐥 🐥
Most major supermarket brands are at 10,000 hens per HA.
That’s a bit of a squeeze! 😬

Turning a Food Hub into a Living Classroom 🚸🍐🌽🍋🍅🫛

Running a Box Divvy food Hub transforms your home into a living classroom where homeschooling families can master practical skills in business, maths, and nutrition.
Your children can actively participate in weighing produce, tracking orders, and managing inventory, turning abstract textbook lessons into meaningful, real-world experiences.

Beyond academics, it fosters essential social skills and community connection as kids interact with local growers and neighbours of all ages.

This unique side-gig offers a hands-on entrepreneurship lesson every week while helping your community eat better for less.

Our Kindness Box was overflowing with generosity this week ✨🌿🫚🍝🥦🍐🫑🥒💚✨
Members from both Hubs have contributed items from their own orders to help others in our community.
👭👫👭👫👭👫👭👫👭👫👭👫 In these cold, hard times, these small acts of kindness go a long way towards warming hearts and filling tummies.
✨🫂✨
It’s such a beautiful reminder that community isn’t just about sharing food, it’s about caring for each other too ✨👭👫👭 🥕✨

Do you know someone who could benefit from our Kindness Box ✨🎁✨

To highlight the plight of farmers getting paid the same money for their produce as they were paid ten or twenty years ago, Box Divvy started a series of Rollback Prices. All The Way Back to 1999.

We unearthed supermarket ads going back to the year 1999 that advertised fresh produce at prices not too dissimilar to today’s prices 📰 👀

Last week, we offered Field Tomatoes at the 1999 price of $2.69 a kilo 🍅👍😁

This week, it’s Iceberg Lettuce 🥗
At the unbelievable price of 87c 🤯
Most (70c) goes back to grower Manuel Xerri in Agnes Bank, and Box Divvy makes the princely sum of 17c ✨👩‍🌾✨

The big supermarkets are selling Iceberg lettuce for $2.50 a head 🤯 that's nearly three times as much 💰💰💰

Mandarin $3.45kg 🍊🍊🍊
Mandarins are in a bit of a holding pattern, as Qld growing regions around Gayndah are finishing up.
Whilst the southern regions of NSW and VIC haven’t quite started yet 👩‍🌾
Sydney there will be Afourers 🍊
And in Melbourne there are still Imperials 🍊

Pear or Apple 🍎 🍐🤔
A surprise hit last week 🍐🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️
Papples will be back again this week too! 🍐🍎👍😁

Baby broccoli 🥦 Tenderstem 🥦 broccolini 🥦 whatever you like to call them 🤷‍♀️ You might as well get 2 at this price 🥦🥦👍😁

Brussel sprouts 🟢🟢🟢
Growing regions are overlapping. So take advantage of the supply boom before the inevitable bust.
🟢 This week, they’re $4 a kilo
That is one-quarter of the Coles price 🤯

Rockmelons are getting very scarce 🍈🏃‍♀️

What’s going on with rockmelons 🍈🤔

For weeks now, they’re off more often than they’re on – and when they’re on, they are pricey 🍈💰

And right now, we can’t get any for love nor money 🤷‍♀️
Unless you’re willing to pay $25k each 🤯
Yes, you read that right!
In Japan, someone has paid over $50,000 for a box with two new season rockmelons!
No wonder the grower was grinning ear to ear 👍😁

We think we’d rather wait until prices come down a little✨🧘‍♀️✨
