As a busy midwife at the local hospital, Michelle spends her days caring for others. Like many people over 50, she often found herself putting her own health on the back burner.

When she returned to Body Blitzer, her goal was simple: improve her health, lose some weight and enjoy a better quality of life.

Working alongside Coach Julie Pram, she focused on small changes she could maintain rather than trying to be perfect.

Great to see both members and some new faces at tonightโ€™s FREE Strength Training & Lift Technique Workshop last night.

We covered:

18 months ago, Geoff joined Body Blitzer after booking an overseas motorbike holiday and deciding he wanted to get fitter and stronger to enjoy it.

Like many people, he was unsure about getting started, but our Over 60s program felt like the right fit.

Since then, Geoff has trained consistently three times per week, attending two group sessions and one Personal Training session to build his strength, fitness and confidence.

After retiring from dairy farming, Geoff realised how easy it is to stay home, keep to yourself and gradually do less and less. He knew that wasnโ€™t how he wanted to spend his retirement.

Today, training is about more than exercise. Itโ€™s a chance to catch up with mates, stay connected and be part of a community. Geoff also volunteers at Flagstaff Hill each week, helping him stay active and involved.

Some of the benefits Geoff has experienced include:

โœ… Improved strength for everyday life
โœ… Better balance and stability
โœ… More energy for holidays and hobbies
โœ… Regular social connection and friendships
โœ… Greater resilience through lifeโ€™s setbacks

There have been challenges along the way.

While on the very motorbike holiday that inspired him to get started, Geoff suffered a serious ankle injury when a motorbike landed on it. The injury kept him out of the gym for two months.

Geoff stayed patient, focused on his recovery and worked his way back.

Today heโ€™s back training consistently and continuing to invest in his health and wellbeing.

Keith and Kaye are living proof that getting older doesnโ€™t have to mean slowing down.

Now in their mid-70s, theyโ€™ve been part of the Body Blitzer community for the past 3 years, regularly attending our Over 60s program 2 to 3 times each week.

Kaye began exercising over 15 years ago after realising her fitness wasnโ€™t where she wanted it to be. Keith started training after being diagnosed with osteopenia and wanting to improve his bone health.

Today, exercise is simply part of their routine.

As a result, theyโ€™ve been able to enjoy:

โœ… Staying active and continuing to travel
โœ… Maintaining their strength and independence
โœ… Better balance and confidence
โœ… Positive friendships and social connection
โœ… A healthier and more active lifestyle

Last year, just five weeks before a European River Cruise, Keith broke his shoulder, pinched a nerve in his back and contracted COVID.

Despite these setbacks, he recovered, went on the trip and enjoyed the experience. He believes the strength and fitness he had built played a major role in helping him bounce back.

Keith and Kaye often notice people their own age, and even 20 years younger, who move slower, struggle with everyday tasks and have less independence because they havenโ€™t maintained their strength and fitness over time.

Their story is a reminder that exercise isnโ€™t about looking younger.

Itโ€™s about staying strong enough to keep doing the things you love.

Because the goal isnโ€™t just to live longer.

Itโ€™s to live well.

Those were the words Bruce shared with me when we first sat down and discussed his goals.

A big shout out to Bruce, also known recently as Elder Slater.

For the past 18 months, Bruce and his wife have been serving as volunteer senior missionaries for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints here in Warrnambool.

As they prepared to return home to the United States, Bruce had one goal:

๐“๐จ ๐ ๐จ ๐ก๐จ๐ฆ๐ž ๐ฌ๐ญ๐ซ๐จ๐ง๐ ๐ž๐ซ ๐ญ๐ก๐š๐ง ๐ฐ๐ก๐ž๐ง ๐ก๐ž ๐š๐ซ๐ซ๐ข๐ฏ๐ž๐.

After losing almost 30kg, Bruce was thrilled with the weight loss but realised he had also lost strength through his shoulders, arms and core.

Approaching 70, he knew strength wasnโ€™t just about lifting weights. It was about maintaining his independence and continuing to do the things he enjoys.

Six weeks ago, we created a personalised strength program focused on rebuilding his upper body and core strength.

Since then, Bruce has trained consistently three times per week and achieved some fantastic results:

โœ”๏ธ Stronger shoulders and arms
โœ”๏ธ Improved core strength
โœ”๏ธ Easier to stand from a chair
โœ”๏ธ Greater confidence getting up off the floor
โœ”๏ธ Feeling stronger and more capable in everyday life

What I admire most about Bruce is that he didnโ€™t accept that getting older meant getting weaker.

He identified a problem, took action and committed to improving it.

Bruce, itโ€™s been a privilege to work with you during your final weeks in Warrnambool. Thank you for your friendship, service and for being such a valued part of the Body Blitzer community.

We wish you and Sister Slater safe travels home and hope you return to the United States stronger than when you arrived.

Have you ever sat down on the floor and thoughtโ€ฆ

โ€œGetting back up wasnโ€™t as easy as it used to be?โ€

Weโ€™ve had many people join Body Blitzer Fitness Centre because they started noticing simple everyday tasks becoming harder.

โŒGetting off the floor.
โŒGetting out of a chair.
โŒGetting in and out of the car.
โŒEven getting out of bed in the morning.

Most people assume itโ€™s just part of getting older.

The reality is that as we age, we naturally lose strength if we donโ€™t do something about it.

The good news is that strength can be rebuilt.

Getting up off the floor might seem like a small thing, but it often tells us a lot about our strength, mobility, balance and ability to stay independent.

At Body Blitzer, our goal isnโ€™t to turn people into athletes or body builders.
