PCOS has officially been renamed PMOS — Polyendocrine Metabolic Ovarian Syndrome.

The updated name reflects a broader understanding that the condition may involve hormonal, metabolic and reproductive health factors, rather than only ovarian cysts.

The name of PCOS may be changing… but in Chinese Medicine, the approach has always been about treating the person, not just the diagnosis.

Many people are surprised to learn that not everyone with PCOS has ovarian cysts, which is one reason experts have questioned whether the original name accurately reflects the condition.

Regardless of what it is called, the symptoms can still have a significant impact on day-to-day life:
• Irregular or absent cycles
• Acne
• Weight fluctuations
• Fatigue
• Fertility challenges
• Mood changes
• Excess hair growth
• Digestive symptoms

In Chinese Medicine, treatment is based on the individual presentation and underlying pattern of symptoms.

Two people with the same diagnosis may receive different treatments depending on their presentation, health history and treatment goals.

Treatment may focus on supporting:
• Menstrual cycle regulation
• Ovulation and reproductive health
• Stress management
• Sleep and energy levels
• Digestive and metabolic function
• Overall wellbeing

While the medical terminology may evolve over time, the goal in Chinese Medicine remains the same: supporting the person as a whole, rather than focusing solely on a diagnosis label.

If you’d like to learn more about how Chinese Medicine may support symptoms associated with PCOS/PMOS, feel free to get in touch or book an appointment via the link in bio.

It certainly gets fresh down here!

A little reminder from me… keep your head and neck warm ❄️

It might sound simple, but cold weather and wind can cause the muscles around the neck and shoulders to tighten, often leading to stiffness, headaches, and tension.

A scarf and beanie can make a big difference during the colder months, especially on windy days.

From a Chinese medicine perspective, cold and wind are considered external factors that can enter the body through exposed areas such as the neck and upper back. Keeping these areas warm may help prevent tension, stiffness, and the early onset of colds.

If you are experiencing ongoing neck pain, headaches, or muscle tension this winter, acupuncture and Chinese medicine may help support circulation, reduce tightness, and promote relaxation.

Stay warm and take care of yourself this leading into and during winter.

Most people who know me have probably heard me say:

“Try to avoid cold drinks.”

And I know… It’s a bit controversial.

From a Chinese medicine perspective, digestion is often understood to function best when the body is warm.

The digestive system is commonly compared to a cooking pot or fire. Its role is to transform food and fluids into energy and nutrients the body can use. From this perspective, regularly consuming iced drinks or very cold foods may place additional demand on the digestive process.

Over time, this may contribute to symptoms such as:
• Bloating
• Fatigue after eating
• Loose stools
• Digestive discomfort
• Fluid retention
• Feeling sluggish or heavy

For this reason, warm water, herbal teas, or room temperature drinks are often suggested in traditional Chinese medicine practice, particularly when supporting digestion or general well-being.

That doesn’t mean cold drinks are never appropriate.

It’s about balance, individual constitution, and what best supports your body.

Sometimes small daily habits can make a meaningful difference over time.

If you’ve been trying all the “right” supplements… but still don’t feel better - this might be why.

I’m seeing more and more people in clinic taking iron, magnesium, zinc, B vitamins, turmeric, melatonin and other things they may have seen recommended online.

But they’re not getting the results they expected.

Here’s the part that often gets missed:

Absorption matters.

If your digestion isn’t working properly, your body may not actually be using what you’re taking.

In Chinese medicine, we often see this as the Spleen being overloaded or under-functioning, which means nutrients aren’t being properly processed and transported.

So even the right supplements… can end up doing very little.

Remember, the goal isn’t more supplements - it’s better function.

You’ve done everything right - seen your GP, had your tests, followed the advice…
But something still doesn’t feel quite right.

Instead of focusing only on a diagnosis, we look at patterns - how your body is functioning as a whole.

For many people, it helps make sense of symptoms that don’t always show up clearly on tests - whether it’s ongoing pain, flare-ups, or other chronic issues.
