MUDDY MATES – AUGUST 2026 🌲

Another Muddy Mates adventure done and dusted!

This month, the gang hit the road and headed to Eildon for an overnight 4WD adventure exploring some of Victoria’s beautiful countryside.

After a day out adventuring, everyone settled into our accommodation before heading to the Eildon Hotel for dinner and we even managed to catch a comedy show while we were there!

Muddy Mates is about so much more than getting the 4WDs dirty. These trips give the gang the opportunity to build friendships, confidence, independence and everyday life skills while getting out into the community, trying new things and having a good time along the way.

Each month we aim to head somewhere different, with trips ranging from a full-day adventure to an overnight getaway exploring different parts of Victoria.

If you or someone you support would be interested in joining the crew for an upcoming Muddy Mates trip, send us a message or email to find out more! 💬📧

New mates are always welcome! 🤎

We were so lucky for our Friday Community Connections Group to fall on the same day as the Lucky 13 Mini Golf & Arcade All Abilities Disco. What an awesome event, it was great to connect with other peers, have a dance and enjoy the arcade games. Thank you to the legends at Lucky 13 for hosting this fun-filled event

Growth doesn’t always happen in big moments. Sometimes it starts with a shopping basket, a chopping board and a home cooked meal.

Today, Murray showed exactly what the NDIS is designed to support.. building confidence, independence and life skills.

With support from Hayley, Murray planned a meal from start to finish. He independently selected the ingredients at the supermarket, carried the shopping basket, completed his purchase at the checkout and then returned home ready to get cooking.

From chopping vegetables and stirring the sauce to monitoring the pasta, combining the meal and portioning it into containers for future lunches and dinners, Murray was involved every step of the way. With encouragement and positive reinforcement, his confidence continued to grow as he proudly completed each task.

This is what quality support looks like. It’s not about doing things for people, it’s about empowering people to do things for themselves.

Every new skill learned, every bit of confidence gained and every moment of independence achieved helps build a future with greater choice, control and opportunity.

We’re incredibly proud of you, Murray, and grateful to Hayley for walking alongside you and encouraging growth every step of the way. 💙

🚨 Heads up, BCSWS Community! 🚨

Today at 2:00pm (AEST), Australia will conduct a national test of the new AusAlert emergency warning system.

📱 If your mobile phone, smartwatch or tablet is compatible, you can expect:
🔊 A loud siren-like sound (around 10 seconds)
📳 Your device to vibrate
📩 A pop-up message reading “TEST MESSAGE – NO ACTION REQUIRED.”

A few important things to know:
• The alert may sound even if your device is on silent or Do Not Disturb.
• There is no action required – this is only a nationwide test.
• If you’re supporting someone who may become distressed by unexpected loud noises, it may be helpful to let them know in advance that the alert is coming.
• If you’re driving at the time, don’t reach for your phone. Wait until it is safe to pull over before checking the notification.
• The alert cannot be opted out of on compatible devices. The only way to avoid receiving it is to have your device switched off or in airplane mode during the test.

This new system is designed to improve how Australia delivers urgent warnings during emergencies such as bushfires, floods and other life-threatening events.

Please feel free to share this post with family, friends and participants who may benefit from the heads-up.

💙 Stay safe,
Bass Coast Support Work Services

AusAlert may increase risk for people experiencing violence, especially if they live with someone who uses violence. Alerts may expose safety devices.

🐮 What a moo-velous day out! 🐮

Brodie and Mycalie had an unforgettable visit to Caldermeade Farm for the Highland Cow Cuddle Experience!

They spent time meeting and gently brushing two beautiful six-month-old female Highland calves, fed the friendly goats, had a laugh listening to the noisy geese, posed on the tractor, enjoyed a delicious lunch, and of course couldn’t leave without snapping a photo under the farm’s iconic giant cow! 📸🐄

With pleasant weather and not a drop of rain, it was the perfect day to get outdoors, connect with the animals, and make some wonderful memories together. 🩵

MEET THE TEAM – Lisa

Lisa is one of our dedicated Support Workers here at Bass Coast Support Work Services. As a proud local to Bass Coast, she's passionate about supporting people in her own community to live fulfilling, independent lives.

Known for her calm, gentle, and approachable nature, Lisa takes the time to build genuine relationships with the people she supports. She understands that everyone is different and believes support should always be tailored to each person's individual goals, routines and preferences. Whether it's assisting with daily tasks, getting out into the community, or simply sharing a chat over a coffee, Lisa brings patience, kindness and respect to every shift.

Outside of work, Lisa enjoys spending time with animals, going for walks, being creative, and unwinding with music or a good TV series.

If you see Lisa out and about supporting participants around Bass Coast, be sure to say hello! 👋💙

Introducing Community Connections! 🌟

Looking for a fun way to build confidence, friendships and independence?

Every Friday, our Community Connections program heads out into the local community to explore everything Bass Coast has to offer. While we might be enjoying a game of bowling, tackling mini golf, grabbing a coffee, visiting local attractions or trying something completely new, there’s so much more happening behind the scenes.

Each outing is designed to support participants to:
Build confidence in community settings
Develop social skills and meaningful friendships
Improve communication and decision-making
Increase independence using community facilities
Strengthen everyday life skills in real-world environments
✨ Most importantly… have a great time!

Community Connections is all about learning through experience. Every outing provides opportunities to practise problem-solving, make choices, build resilience and become more confident navigating the community.

Swipe through to see some of the smiles, adventures and memories we’ve been creating! 📸
