The biceps brachii is a large muscle located on the front of the upper arm. It features two heads (the long and short head) that originate on the scapula (shoulder blade) and insert on the radius bone of the forearm. Its primary functions are elbow flexion and forearm supination (turning the palm upward).
Anatomy and Mechanics

Origins: The short head originates from the coracoid process of the scapula, while the long head arises from the supraglenoid tubercle.

Insertion: Both heads merge into a single tendon that attaches to the radial tuberosity.

Actions: The biceps brachii flexes the elbow (bends the arm) and supinates the forearm (twists the wrist so the palm faces up). It also weakly assists in shoulder flexion.
Clinical Significance
Because the biceps crosses multiple joints, it is susceptible to specific injuries.
Tendinitis/Tear: Inflammation or tearing of the long head tendon is common and can cause anterior shoulder or elbow pain.
Popeye Deformity: A rupture of the biceps tendon can cause the muscle belly to bunch up, giving it a bulging appearance known as the "Popeye muscle".
