Alcidion

Alcidion Alcidion provides smarter solutions for clinicians. Alcidion provides active intelligence and decision support software for high performance healthcare.

With our FHIR-events platform, Miya Precision, we assist healthcare organisations in building interoperable digital ecosystems that liberate data to enhance patient outcomes. Alcidion is an innovative health informatics company that specializes in clinical products that improve productivity, safety and efficiency. By making clinicians more efficient, eliminating key clinical risks, tracking patien

t progress through journeys within and between healthcare facilities and making recommendations about patient care to the care team based on complex analysis of the clinical and administrative context for each patient, the patient flow, patient safety and organisational efficiency can all be improved and key critical risks eliminated. Alcidion has created the Miya Platform, which uses a Decision Support Engine (DSE) to actively monitor electronic data feeds to detect emerging risk to patients and to the organization. Miya can provide guidance to the right people to mitigate risk before harm occurs.

Alcidion has signed a 7-year contract with University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust (UHSussex) to deploy the Miya Precision Electronic Patient Record (EPR) platform.

Under the agreement, Alcidion will deploy its flagship modular Miya Precision platform, alongside Miya Observations and Assessments (Patientrack), which is already live at the trust.

The scope of modules includes virtual care, marking the first time an NHS trust has included Alcidion’s virtual care module as part of their EPR. This will support provision of care and remote patient monitoring for patients that may otherwise need to be treated in hospital.

This represents Alcidion’s third EPR platform contract and further supports our growing presence in the UK healthcare market. Alcidion Group Managing Director and CEO, Kate Quirke, said:
“This is an exciting step in our relationship with University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust and we look forward to continuing to work closely together to support their digital transformation strategy.”

“ED directors across the globe will be thinking about how do they optimise flow and take the heat out of their departments."

In the fourth episode of the new Alcidion Insights Series, see how modern digital solutions like Miya Emergency are helping improve ED visibility, optimise patient flow and support faster, more informed clinical decisions

Featuring insights from Chief Medical Officer & UK Managing Director, Dr Paul Deffley, Chief Clinical Information Officer, Tracy McClelland and Chief Revenue Officer (UK & Ireland), Darren Ransley, the discussion examines the ongoing reliance on manual processes in EDs, the impact of fragmented patient information and the importance of real-time operational visibility.

We're pleased to have contributed to a new UK EPR Network whitepaper examining one of the most important factors in successful digital transformation: people.

Technology lays the foundation, but lasting change happens when frontline teams are empowered to lead adoption, shape workflows and drive continuous improvement.
The whitepaper brings together practical experiences and recommendations from NHS organisations and digital health partners, highlighting how clinician-led engagement can help unlock greater value from investments.

It was a privilege to contribute to this work alongside Healthcare Innovation Consortium, the EPR Network and so many other industry organisations who are tackling these challenges every day.

From Red to Green: Turning inpatient delay into capacity at Western Health, Victoria

When hospitals are under pressure, the focus tends to land on the front door: ambulance arrivals, ED overcrowding, bed shortages. But at Western Health, the team identified a different constraint.

Patients who were clinically progressing but waiting unnecessarily for test results, consultations or discharge paperwork were consuming capacity that could otherwise be safely released.

Working with Alcidion, Western Health configured the Red to Green methodology (originally developed in the NHS) directly into their Miya Precision journey boards and dashboards, giving staff real-time visibility of where delays were clustering and the tools to act on them daily.

The approach has already surfaced insights that were previously invisible. A deep dive into red days for respiratory patients uncovered a pathology bottleneck that, once addressed, reduced length of stay. The team can now quantify emergency surgery waits for the first time. And the framework helped shape capacity planning ahead of the new Footscray Hospital opening in early 2026.

"This isn't a project with an end date," says Fran Brockhus, Director of Access and Patient Flow. "It's an operating discipline that strengthens over time."

Google Cloud has published a case study on its work with Alcidion, highlighting how the migration of Miya Precision to Google Cloud's AlloyDB is delivering greater stability and performance for hospitals across Australia, New Zealand and the United Kingdom.

Stephen Ridley, Alcidion's Director of Site Reliability Engineering and Platform Operations, led the migration, which was completed in under a month with a final 15-minute cutover window that returned clinical users to work almost immediately.

Delivering the best possible performance and availability for Miya Precision allows care teams to continue to receive real-time visibility of patient flow, bed capacity, clinical risk and more - and ultimately deliver the best care.

The results of the migration?
→ Data processing: Jobs that once took 30 minutes reduced to under 60 seconds
→ Enhanced stability: Significant reduction in disruptions and the need for manual intervention
→ Reduced administrative burden: through simplification of backend and clinical dashboards

This is the infrastructure foundation that makes AI in healthcare possible. The migration now enables real-time analytics and Gemini AI integration, bringing critical clinical insights to the point of care, faster and more reliably than before.

Congratulations to Stephen and the Alcidion engineering team on an impactful piece of work.

We're delighted to share that we have signed a formal collaboration agreement with Gold Coast Health 👏

In March this year, Gold Coast Health selected Miya Precision to extend virtual care into patients' homes through remote patient monitoring. The new collaboration agreement builds on that partnership and creates a framework for ongoing collaboration on the Miya Precision platform, informed by clinical and operational experience at one of Australia's fastest-growing health services. Enhancements developed through this collaboration will be made available for other health services using Miya Precision to adopt and benefit from.

Gold Coast Health Chief Digital Officer Dom Girolamo said, "The next generation of digital healthcare cannot be created in isolation. It needs to support continuous innovation with genuine co-design between health services, clinicians and technology partners."

Alcidion CEO Kate Quirke added, "The best healthcare technology is shaped by the people who use it every day. This agreement recognises the enormous value that Gold Coast Health's clinical and operational teams bring to the development process."

We look forward to continuing this partnership and building better digital tools for clinicians and patients across Australia - together.
