Aphasia can happen after stroke, and it’s more common than many people realise.
Australian sources estimate that around 30–35% of stroke survivors have aphasia when they leave hospital.

That means thousands of people each year may be adjusting to a new way of communicating.
Awareness matters because understanding aphasia helps families, friends, and communities respond with confidence and care.

Celebrating Reconciliation Week and Mabo Day in Cairns.
Today, the Synapse team come together in Cairns to mark National Reconciliation Week, a particularly meaningful occasion for Synapse as it coincides with Mabo Day.

This year's gathering holds special significance for many of our team members who have family and cultural connections to Mer (Murray Island) in the Torres Strait, the homeland of Uncle Eddie Koiki Mabo, whose determination and legacy led to the landmark Mabo decision that changed the course of Australian history and recognised Native Title.

As we reflect on the journey of reconciliation, we acknowledge the strength, knowledge, and cultural traditions that continue to be shared across generations. We are honoured to have our Mer families helping us celebrate today, as they share stories and culture that deepen our understanding and connection.

Today on World MS Day, we stand with everyone affected by multiple sclerosis and recognise the strength, resilience, and experiences of people living with MS around the world.

This year’s theme, My MS Diagnosis: Navigating MS Together, highlights the importance of early and accurate diagnosis, better support systems, and improved awareness of the barriers many people face on their MS journey.

At Synapse, we know that timely diagnosis, access to information, and strong support networks can make a significant difference in the lives of people living with neurological conditions. We join the global MS community in advocating for greater understanding, improved healthcare pathways, and continued research and innovation.

Together, we can help build more informed, connected, and compassionate communities for people living with MS.

A concussion is never “just a bump to the head.”

For children and young people, concussion can affect learning, emotions, confidence, friendships, and everyday life in ways many people don’t see. The good news is that growing research and lived experience are helping change the way we recognise, manage, and support concussion in kids. With earlier intervention, better understanding, and more compassionate care.

Stories like this help drive awareness, education, and change. 💙

This National Reconciliation Week, the message is clear: we all have a role to play.

The 2026 theme, All In, is a call for every Australian to commit to reconciliation not just during NRW, but every day. Reconciliation is not passive, and it cannot rest solely on the shoulders of First Nations peoples. Real change happens when all of us step forward, listen, learn, and take meaningful action together.

At Synapse, we are committed to supporting culturally safe practices, strengthening relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, and continuing the work toward equity, respect, and inclusion.

Because reconciliation will not happen from the sidelines. We must all be All In.
