Just another week of holding space for some incredible patients on their health Journey!🌴🌊

Your nervous system was never designed to live in permanent “fight or flight” mode.

Yet for so many people, the sympathetic nervous system stays switched ON for far too long.

Think:
⚡feeling wired but exhausted⚡ jaw tension⚡ shallow breathing⚡ poor sleep⚡ anxiety⚡ digestive issues⚡ muscle tension ⚡burnout that coffee can’t fix

This is where acupuncture gets really interesting.

Research suggests acupuncture may help regulate the autonomic nervous system, the system responsible for balancing your “fight or flight” (sympathetic) and “rest, repair and digest” (parasympathetic) responses. Studies have shown acupuncture can influence heart rate variability (HRV), which is one of the main measurable markers used to assess nervous system regulation and vagal tone.

Several systematic reviews and clinical studies have found that acupuncture may:
🌴Reduce sympathetic nervous system overactivity
🌴Increase parasympathetic activity
🌴Improve HRV markers linked to stress resilience
🌴Support the body’s stress recovery response
🌴Help regulate the brain body stress pathways

Mechanistically, acupuncture is thought to influence the central nervous system through complex neurochemical pathways involving the vagus nerve, hypothalamus, limbic system, and neurotransmitters involved in stress and pain regulation.

Translation?Sometimes your body does not need more “push”.It needs help remembering how to feel safe again.

Acupuncture is not about “switching stress off”.It is about helping the nervous system become more adaptable, regulated, and resilient.

A regulated nervous system changes EVERYTHING 🌊

🚨 PCOS has officially been renamed 🚨
Polycystic O***y Syndrome is now being referred to as: ✨ Polyendocrine Metabolic Ovarian Syndrome (PMOS) ✨

And for many women, this change feels long overdue.

For years, the name “PCOS” has caused confusion. Many people diagnosed with the condition don’t actually have ovarian cysts, and the condition itself reaches far beyond the ovaries.
PMOS better reflects what practitioners and patients have been recognising for a long time: This is a whole body hormonal and metabolic condition.
It can impact:
⚖️ Insulin sensitivity and metabolism
🩸 Menstrual cycles and ovulation
🧠 Mood, energy and mental health
❤️ Cardiovascular health
🧴 Skin and hair
😴 Sleep and fatigue
🤰 Fertility and pregnancy outcomes

The updated terminology was published in The Lancet after years of international collaboration between researchers, clinicians, and women living with the condition.
Importantly: This is a name change, not a new disease or new diagnosis.

The diagnostic criteria remain the same, but experts hope the updated name will:
✨ Improve understanding
✨ Reduce stigma
✨ Encourage earlier diagnosis
✨ Support more holistic care
✨ Highlight the metabolic and endocrine impacts that are often overlooked

One of the strongest messages coming from patients was: “Please stop reducing this condition to ovaries.”
Because for many women, the symptoms affecting daily life are often the fatigue, insulin resistance, inflammation, mood changes, weight struggles, skin concerns, or feeling like their body is constantly working against them.

This shift in language is about recognising the FULL picture 💛

Wait… acupuncture? Isn’t that just needles?! 😅
Not quite. Think of acupuncture more like a tune up for your body.
Your body runs on complex communication systems. Nervous system, hormones, circulation, immune responses… all working together.
When life gets busy, stressed, or disrupted, those systems can fall a little out of sync 🚧
That’s where acupuncture comes in.
Those tiny, hair thin needles? They stimulate specific points on the body to support how these systems communicate and regulate themselves 💫
🧠 From a modern research perspective: Acupuncture has been shown to
• Modulate the nervous system, supporting a shift toward a more relaxed parasympathetic state
• Influence pain pathways, including the release of endogenous opioids (your body’s natural pain relief)
• Improve local blood flow and microcirculation
• Support regulation of stress related responses through the hypothalamic pituitary adrenal (HPA) axis
☯️ From a Traditional Chinese Medicine framework: Acupuncture is used to regulate the flow of Qi and Blood through pathways known as meridians.
In clinical practice, this translates to supporting balance and coordination between different organ systems and functional processes in the body.
And no, it doesn’t feel like you’re being turned into a pin cushion 😄
Most people feel relaxed, heavy, sometimes even floaty… like your body just went “ahhh, finally.”
✨ So whether you’re dealing with pain, stress, sleep issues, or just feeling a bit “off”…
acupuncture is less about “fixing” you, and more about supporting your body to function at its best.
Curious? Your body might be trying to tell you something 💛
