In 2019 I underwent chemo and radiation for cervical cancer.  While it's not something I usually share here, the experience seems relevant because it profoundly changed the way I work and how I understand grief.

Prior to this, grief seemed like something that followed loss, mostly after death.  But facing a life threatening illness taught me that grief can begin long before something is actually gone.

After the shock of the diagnosis, I began to grieve the life I thought I would have.   I had lost my sense of safety and trust in my body.  I grieved the person I was before that call - the fit, vibrant, fertile and supposedly healthy one who had hope for her future.  I grieved the fact that I had lost the chance to know motherhood and that I would be catapulted into premature menopause before my time.   I still can't look at photos in the same way as, in my mind. my life is divided into 'before' and 'after'.    That woman didn't know what was coming.

Then there was the grief that comes with sudden uncertainty - the loss of the idea that tomorrow will look much like today and the innocence that comes with that.

The hardest part is that most of these losses are invisible to everyone else.

I've continued this reflection in the comments...

After spending yesterday convinced  it was Wednesday, I'm in shock that Friday has arrived!   Where did the week go?!

Working from home seems to be the ultimate recipe for mixing worlds -  to a point where the days blur and my desk is a mixture of technology, scarves, craft projects, pendulums, notes, tea and smarties....

Since leaving my team to work full time in private practice, I have definitely noticed isolation creeping in and a craving for more routine.  I'm working on it!

It's interesting to reflect on what we need as human beings and think about creative ways to meet those needs outside of a structured system.

How do you get the balance right?  What are you still working on?

Yesterday, I said goodbye to my amazing colleagues at Dementia Australia after 7.5 years in the Counselling team and a decade with DA. The organisation and those I've worked alongside have held me in my own difficult times and shaped me in so many ways, especially in my understanding of loss and grief.

I'm excited to step fully into Two Souls after juggling both roles for some time now, however, I'm also aware of the grief I feel making this transition and letting go. As this cycle comes to an end, I recognise that there is a lot of processing and honouring to do. My body is 'speaking' this with tears and bone crushing fatigue as the energy of it passes through me and makes space for the new.

This morning I sat with this energy and asked for a card that would reflect this transition. I asked my guides and all those who support me in this realm and others for this guidance.

I'd say they got it right ❤️
