- commission health services in the Northern Territory

NT PHN was proud to attend the Aboriginal Medial Services Alliance Northern Territory (AMSANT) Social and Emotional Wellbeing and Alcohol and Other Drugs (SEWB AOD) Forum in Darwin last week.

Our Executive Manager Strategy, Commissioning and Integration, Ali Lloyd, joined Simon Casey, Director of Su***de Prevention at NT Health NT Health, to present on health policy and the commissioning of SEWB and mental health services across the Northern Territory.

The conference brought together people from the sector to share knowledge, strengthen connections and hear from inspiring keynote speakers from Waminda - South Coast Women's Health & Wellbeing Aboriginal Corp., a leading Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation in New South Wales.

Learn more about the diphtheria outbreak, the 2026 flu season and strategies to deal with vaccine hesitancy in your practice.

Join Specialist Public Health Physician Dr Ashish Yadav from the NT Centre for Disease Control and Jayne Porter from NT's Immunisation Program to understand how your practice can best support your patients.

Attendees will learn how to:

✅apply the 2026 clinical guidelines for the respiratory season (Influenza, RSV, COVID-19) and the current NT diphtheria outbreak response
✅navigate the National Immunisation Program (NIP) schedule to correctly identify catch-up and booster requirements for older and high-risk adults

📢 Mental Health First Aid Training for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander men.

Register now for a FREE mental health first aid training program where participants learn how to recognise, respond to, and support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people experiencing mental health challenges, crises, or distress.

This course is for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander men who work in in the Mental Health and Alcohol & Other Drugs workforce and is grounded in cultural understanding, community connection, and practical support strategies that respect Aboriginal ways of healing.

Strong connections to culture, family and Country are central to social and emotional wellbeing ❤️🖤💛

NT PHN’s Strategy and Evaluation Senior Program Officer, Beatriz Cardona, recently visited the Tiwi Islands to speak with Elders, community leaders and local organisations about the Social and Emotional Wellbeing (SEWB) Program and its role in community life.

🌟 Nominations are now open for HPOY's Rising Star of the Year Award 🌟

This award recognises an emerging primary healthcare professional who is already making a meaningful impact through leadership, dedication and commitment to their community.

Last year’s recipient, Kamika Pollard, an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Practitioner with Danila Dilba Health Service, was recognised for the trust and connection she built with clients through culturally safe care, her ability to support and lead her peers through change, and the initiative she showed in strengthening her trainee cohort and community outcomes.
