We pride ourselves on having the best work team at Border Medical Laser and Aesthetics, but the hardest working team members are probably our lasers!

Meet our Gigaa GBox, my personal favourite. This is a laser that works on the 1470 wavelength. It targets chromophores that are in the vein walls and in the water of blood cells, targeting and closing big blood vessels. No vein is too big to be treated, as the laser handpiece is inserted inside the vein so is right next to its target.

The important bit about laser is picking the right laser for the job. With just about all the lasers we can target just about any concerns.

Come in for a consultation and we can help work out if we have the right laser for your needs.

Did you know Vit D is available as a depot injection?

Most people only know of Vitamin D tablets as treatment for low levels. However, this may not always be the best option. If your levels are consistently low despite oral tablets and moderate sun exposure, if you have inflammation of the gut stopping absorption or you need to get your levels up quickly an injection of Vitamin D might be a better option for you.

It is generally given once a year, although levels can be checked on blood test if required.

Low vitamin D can be associated with symptoms of fatigue and tiredness, bone pain, muscle weakness or cramps, low mood and low immune function.

Low levels may be due to lack of sun exposure (or wearing long sleeves and sunscreen), darker skin tones, poor absorption and low dietary intake.

To increase vitamin d absorption from the sun it is recommended to spend 20 minutes a day in the morning or evenings in the sun with arms uncovered and no sunscreen. During the day it is best to avoid the sun due to risk of skin cancer and quicker skin ageing.

Vitamin D is particularly important for women and children to help keep their bones strong. Low vitamin D levels have also been linked to higher rates of food allergies in children!!

Don’t forget to check your Vitamin D levels!

We pride ourselves on having the best work team at Border Medical Laser and Aesthetics, but the hardest working team members are probably our lasers! So today I thought I’d start giving you an introduction.

Meet our Fotona KTP and NDYag laser. This is a laser that works on 2 wavelengths (532 is the KTP and 1064 is the NDYag). It targets chromophores that are close to the skin, targeting and closing little blood vessels, and shattering melanin and pigments via photomechanical processes (basically hitting it hard with energy and blasting it). It can also be used for gentle antiinflammatory effects such as in the treatment of rosacea.

The important bit about laser is picking the right laser for the job. With just about all the lasers we can target just about any concerns.

Come in for a consultation and we can help work out if we have the right laser for your needs.

Breast checks are important for every woman, both on and off hormone therapy.

You should get to know your breasts quite intimately- noticing early changes can make a difference!

I agree, one of the most frustrating things I see is patients being told they are “too young” for menopause by their usual GPs.
I will frequently see women with low progesterone levels in their 30s and 40s, way before their estrogen levels start to drop giving the classic “hot flushes” that the majority of Drs see as menopausal symptoms.

If you are symptomatic, find someone with an interest in women’s health and hormones to see, regardless of your age!!

Laser assisted endolifting utilises the effect of subcision (pushing a blunt cannula and the laser fibre under the skin) to stimulate collagen production in the skin.

Collagen retraction is caused when skin temperature is raised to between 50 and 70 degrees, which causes the tissue/skin to retract or tighten.

Fat cells may be damaged with prolonged exposure to heat, causing them to die off.

Laser assisted endolifting is a procedure performed under local anaesthetic and is associated with minimal discomfort. It is a relatively new treatment in Australia, but performed widely overseas.

Today we were lucky enough to have Lindsay’s little Flick and all 3 of Bre’s beautiful children attend our weekly midwifery meeting.

As an all woman clinic we appreciate the juggle of working, children, appointments and still finding time for yourself.

Little people are welcome to attend all our appointments, especially if they are coming to check out new siblings. Care may need to be found if you are coming in for a long procedure or a laser treatment, so that we can keep everyone safe.

Pigmentation laser treatment works by a photoscoustic, or photomechanical, effect. A wave of high power energy is shot at the pigment causing it to shatter and gradually be carried away by the body’s lymphatic system. This effect can be used to treat skin pigmentation, tattoos and even iron staining from iron infusions or from varicose veins.

The treated areas will normally go darker before they fade, and it can take 7-8 weeks for the lymphatics to do their job. As a result, treatments are normally spaced about 8 weeks apart or sometimes even longer if treatment is on your legs.

The laser uses a 532 wavelength, or a green laser, that is particularly dangerous to your eyes, so we wear funky orange safety glasses or our metal eye shields.

Stay tuned to see my results!

A bit of Sunday silliness!!

Most people think LED masks are used just to reduce fine lines and redness, but a lot of newer masks have other applications that increase their usefulness in the home!

Near infra red (NIR) has well documented benefits including wound healing and pain relief, as well as skin benefits. Although any home unit won’t be as successful as the medical grade NIR/red light laser we have in the clinic they definitely can be used creatively to provide maintenance in between!
