🤯🩷 WAIT… WHAT DOES YOUR LIVER HAVE TO DO WITH YOUR LYMPH?

Okay Lymphie… grab your notebook. 📚😂

Today we are connecting some dots because your lymphatic system does NOT work in complete isolation.

And here is our first plot twist:

🫀 Your liver is not a lymph node.
🫘 Your kidneys do not filter lymph.
🩷 Your colon does not “clean” your lymph.

BUT fluid balance, blood circulation, digestion, immunity and lymphatic transport are constantly interacting inside the same incredible body.

Ready? 🤓👇

🫀 1. YOUR LIVER IS AN IMPORTANT SITE OF LYMPH FORMATION 🤯

This surprises so many people!

The liver is a highly vascular organ, and fluid originating from its microcirculation contributes to hepatic lymph, which eventually joins the larger lymphatic circulation.

Your liver also has enormous responsibilities of its own, including:

✨ Processing nutrients
✨ Producing bile
✨ Making important blood proteins
✨ Metabolising many substances
✨ Performing complex detoxification processes

And here is where fluid physiology becomes REALLY interesting…

Your liver produces albumin, an important blood protein that contributes significantly to plasma oncotic pressure.

In simple Lymphie language? 😂

Albumin is one of the important factors influencing how fluid is distributed between your bloodstream and surrounding tissues.

💥 MYTH: “Lymphatic drainage detoxes your liver.”

❌ Not quite.

Your liver has its own sophisticated metabolic and detoxification processes.

Your lymphatic system has different responsibilities, including transporting lymph, returning excess interstitial fluid and proteins toward the bloodstream and participating in immune function.

Different jobs. Same body. Beautifully connected. 🩷

🫘 2. YOUR KIDNEYS DO NOT FILTER YOUR LYMPH

Wait… WHAT? 😂

Your kidneys filter your BLOOD, not your lymph.

They play major roles in regulating:

💧 Water balance
🧂 Sodium and other electrolytes
⚖️ Acid base balance
🩸 Blood pressure

So why are we talking about kidneys in a post about lymph?

Because your body’s fluid balance is a TEAM SPORT. 😂

Your kidneys influence how much sodium and water your body retains or excretes.

Your lymphatic vessels have a different job. They collect excess interstitial fluid, proteins and other substances from tissues and transport that lymph back toward the venous circulation.

💥 MYTH: “If you are swollen, you just need to flush your kidneys.”

❌ Nope.

Swelling can have MANY different causes.

Cardiac, renal, venous, lymphatic and other medical factors can all be involved depending on the individual.

That is exactly why persistent or unexplained swelling deserves appropriate medical assessment.

🩷 3. YOUR SMALL INTESTINE HAS A LYMPHATIC SECRET 🤯

Okay, THIS is one of my favourites.

Inside the tiny finger like projections of your small intestine called villi are specialised lymphatic capillaries called:

✨ LACTEALS ✨

After digestion and absorption, long chain dietary fats are reassembled and packaged inside intestinal cells into particles called:

CHYLOMICRONS.

And guess where those chylomicrons go?

Not straight into the ordinary blood capillaries.

They enter the LACTEALS. 😳

From there they travel through intestinal lymphatics, eventually reaching the thoracic duct and entering the venous circulation.

YES.

Part of your lunch literally travels along a…

😂🩷 LYMPHATIC HIGHWAY!

Your lymphatic system is not only about fluid.

It also has an incredible role in dietary lipid transport.

💥 MYTH: “Your colon cleans your lymph.”

❌ No.

Your colon has important digestive, microbial, water handling and immune relationships, but it is not a lymphatic filter.

And remember, the lacteals we are talking about here are located in the SMALL INTESTINE.

🟢 4. LYMPH NODES ARE NOT DIRTY LITTLE SPONGES 😂

Finally!

Something Lymphie recognises. 🙋‍♀️😂

Lymph nodes ARE specialised structures of the lymphatic and immune systems.

As lymph travels through them, immune cells are able to encounter and respond to material carried within that lymph.

So instead of imagining:

🚿 “A dirty drain that needs cleaning”

Think:

🛡️ “IMMUNE SURVEILLANCE STATION.”

Lymph nodes contain important immune cells including lymphocytes and macrophages.

💥 MYTH: “You need to detox your lymph nodes.”

❌ Your lymph nodes are not little storage bins filling up with “toxins” until somebody empties them.

They are living, biologically active immune structures.

And they are MUCH more sophisticated than social media sometimes gives them credit for. 👏😂

🤯 5. AND NOW FOR ONE OF THE BIGGEST LYMPH MISUNDERSTANDINGS…

💥 “THE LYMPHATIC SYSTEM HAS NO PUMP.”

Hmmmmm. 👀

We need to explain this properly.

It is true that the lymphatic system does NOT have one central pump equivalent to your heart.

BUT…

That does NOT mean your lymph is incapable of moving unless somebody massages you or you go for a walk.

Your collecting lymphatic vessels are not simply passive pipes.

Segments between valves are known as:

✨ LYMPHANGIONS ✨

Collecting lymphatic vessels contain smooth muscle that can contract rhythmically.

These intrinsic contractions help generate lymph movement.

And the valves within collecting lymphatic vessels help maintain directional transport.

Your body also has additional forces that can assist lymph movement, including:

🦵 Skeletal muscle activity
🫁 Respiratory pressure changes
❤️ Pulsation of nearby arteries
〰️ Movement and external tissue forces

So your lymph is NOT sitting there saying:

“Bianca hasn’t walked yet today. Everybody stop working.” 😭😂😂

Your lymphatic vessels already possess mechanisms that contribute to lymph propulsion.

Movement and breathing can ASSIST lymph transport.

They do not magically switch your lymphatic system on.

👏 THAT DISTINCTION MATTERS.

🩷 SO WHAT IS LYMPHIE LEARNING TODAY?

The human body is not a collection of departments working independently.

🫀 Liver physiology
🫘 Kidney regulation
🩷 Gut function
🟢 Lymphatic transport
🩸 Blood circulation
🛡️ Immunity
🫁 Breathing
🦵 Movement

Different structures.

Different responsibilities.

But all functioning inside ONE interconnected human body.

And THAT is why studying the lymphatic system becomes so fascinating.

The deeper you go…

the more you realise how much there still is to learn. 🥹🩷📚

🎓😂 OKAY LYMPHIE UNIVERSITY… TEST TIME!

NO GOOGLING! 👀

Which statement is TRUE?

A) Your kidneys filter lymph.

B) Your colon cleans your lymphatic system.

C) Lacteals in the small intestine take up chylomicrons containing absorbed dietary lipids for lymphatic transport.

D) Lymph cannot move unless you exercise or receive lymphatic drainage.

👇👇👇

Drop your answer:

A, B, C or D

And do NOT wait for the clever person to answer first and then copy them. 👀😂

🩷 BONUS QUESTION

What should Lymphie put on her board next?

🫁 LUNGS + LYMPH
🧠 BRAIN + LYMPH
🦴 BONE MARROW + LYMPH
🦠 GUT IMMUNITY + LYMPH

Because Lymphie has discovered something dangerous…

She likes physiology. 🤓📚😂🩷

💧 Boils & The Lymphatic System: When Detox Pathways Overflow

By Bianca Botha, CLT, RLD, MLDT & CDS

When a boil appears, most people see it as just a painful skin infection. But in lymphatic therapy, we view it differently — as a signal.
A boil often reveals that your lymphatic and detox pathways are congested, and the body is trying to push toxins, pathogens, or cellular waste to the surface when deeper channels are blocked.

🌿 The Deeper Mechanism

The skin is not just a covering — it’s your largest lymphatic organ. When the internal terrain (gut, liver, and lymph) becomes sluggish, the body reroutes waste through the skin’s lymph capillaries.
If those capillaries are overwhelmed, bacteria like Staphylococcus aureus can colonize trapped waste pockets — creating inflammation, pus, and the hallmark swelling of a boil.

In essence, a boil is the body’s emergency drainage valve. It’s shouting:

“My internal pathways are full — I’m using the skin to detox!”

💫 The Lymph Connection

When the liver or gut struggles to filter toxins effectively, lymphatic congestion builds in the axillary (armpit), inguinal (groin), or cervical (neck) nodes. These are the same drainage basins that serve the skin areas where boils commonly appear.

This means:
• Boils under the arms → Liver, axillary, and breast lymph stagnation
• Boils on the buttocks or thighs → Colon and pelvic lymph overload
• Boils on the face → Digestive and sinus lymph imbalance

⚖️ Why Some People Get Recurrent Boils

Recurrent boils often indicate a systemic lymphatic imbalance, not just a skin issue.
Contributors include:
• Chronic inflammation and poor liver detox
• Gut dysbiosis (especially Candida or SIBO)
• Insulin resistance or high sugar intake
• Low-grade immune suppression or high stress
• Dehydration and poor lymph flow

When the lymph stagnates, the immune cells can’t circulate efficiently — infections linger, inflammation heightens, and the skin becomes a secondary detox organ.

💎 Therapeutic Approach

The solution isn’t just antibiotics or creams — it’s to unblock the deeper flow.
A holistic lymphatic protocol includes:
1️⃣ Lymphatic Drainage Therapy – to clear congested nodes and restore immune flow.
2️⃣ Liver Support – lemon water, dandelion, or prescribed hepatic support to improve filtration.
3️⃣ Gut Healing – remove inflammatory foods and restore the microbiome.
4️⃣ Hydration & Minerals – to maintain interstitial fluid balance.
5️⃣ Nervous System Balance – vagus nerve support reduces chronic immune stress.

As internal pathways clear, the skin no longer needs to “push out” the overload — boils heal faster and stop recurring.

✨ In Summary

A boil isn’t your enemy — it’s a messenger.
It reveals where your lymphatic system is fighting to keep you safe when deeper detox routes are overwhelmed.
When you treat the cause — lymph stagnation, liver overload, and immune fatigue — the body no longer has to use the skin as an outlet.
