Thanks Facilitate Occupational Therapy Services for having me along to provide manual handling training for your admin and paeds OTs. Awesome team and great opportunity to problem solve together 🤩

We recently welcomed Natasha Nutt from to Facilitate OT to deliver an administration and manual handling training session for our team.

Bryony and Carla have known Natasha for many years, and we always appreciate opportunities to learn from and connect with other passionate occupational therapists in our community.

One of the things we value most in allied health is the willingness of professionals to share knowledge, support one another, and work together to strengthen services across our region. While we may work in different businesses, we all share a common goal - helping people live meaningful and independent lives.

Natasha brought a wealth of knowledge, practical insights, and real-world experience to the session, creating a valuable learning opportunity for our team.

Thank you, Natasha, for your generosity, expertise, and ongoing contribution to the OT community. We loved having you with us.

Manual handling is one of those things most therapists were taught once — and then expected to just know forever.

But the equipment changes. Client presentations change. The complexity of what’s required in community and home-based settings has grown significantly. And the confidence needed to train support workers, guide families, and prescribe the right solutions takes regular, deliberate practice.

A one-day refresh every year or two isn’t a sign you’ve forgotten anything. It’s how you stay sharp in an area that genuinely matters to the people you support.
Our 6 August session in Silverwater is built around exactly this — dedicated hands-on time with current equipment, and space to think through the challenges you’re actually facing in your work.

Care plans that nobody reads aren't protecting anyone.

We write documentation that actually gets used — clear, specific to your client, practical enough that support workers can follow it on a Tuesday night shift.

Not 12 pages of generic content that lives in a filing cabinet.

Looking for an OT role where you can actually make a difference in 2026?

We're Movementum, a small OT-led practice celebrating our 10th year, and we're growing our team in the Illawarra and Campbelltown regions.

This isn't your typical clinical OT role. You'll be working with individuals with physical disabilities AND getting involved in training support workers and care providers in best practice manual handling. We'll teach you everything you need to know about the training side (no prior experience required), and you'll have the clinical support and mentorship to grow your skills in both areas.

What we're looking for:
✅ Current AHPRA registration
✅ Experience in disability or aged care
✅ Someone who values collaboration and sees the bigger picture of quality care
✅ Growth mindset and curiosity about expanding your scope

What you'll get:
✅ Flexible part-time hours (3+ days)
✅ Above award rates + bonus opportunities
✅ Professional development and supervision from senior OTs ✅ Mix of clinical work, training delivery, and project involvement
✅ A team that genuinely enjoys working together

If meaningful work with a values-driven team sounds like your kind of thing, email [email protected] or call 0400 320 223 for a chat.

Starting care for a new client with complex physical needs?

The first two weeks will tell you everything.
→ Is the equipment working in that space?
→ Can the team manage the routine as documented?
→ Are there risks nobody anticipated?

We help care providers set up new services with eyes on what actually happens when theory meets reality.

Early involvement prevents later scrambling.

Therapists — we're here when you need a second opinion on the physical support side of care.

Equipment not working as expected?
Manual handling routine getting complex?
Client with multiple physical challenges and you're weighing up options?

Sometimes you just need another OT who works in this space every day.

Consultation available.

The best equipment training happens when product knowledge and clinical application come together.

That's why we partner with equipment suppliers to deliver combined sessions — your team gets to see the equipment demonstrated and learn how to assess whether it's right for their specific client situations.

Not just “this is what it does" but "this is when you'd choose it, how you'd trial it, and what to do when standard approaches don't work.”

Equipment suppliers who value clinical outcomes over sales — those are the partnerships that actually serve clients well.
If you're an equipment company interested in collaborative training and consultation, get in touch.

The gap between what equipment can do and what people actually do with it is where many problems live in care routines.

The right hoist prescribed. The right sling selected. But six months later, it's gathering dust in the corner.

Why?

Sometimes the space is too tight. Sometimes the client's tolerance changed. Sometimes nobody felt confident using it. Sometimes the routine evolved and the equipment got left behind.

Equipment working well isn't just about prescription.
It's about setup, training, troubleshooting when things don't feel right, and checking back in as needs change.
When I'm called in because equipment "isn't working," it's rarely the equipment itself.

It's usually something in that gap between prescription and daily use.

And that's preventable.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . ..

This issue of abandoned or under-utilised equipment is continually raised by support workers in our manual handling training sessions. So this is exactly why Natasha is presenting on this topic at ATSA Sydney this week! www.expo.atsa.org.au
