Some teams do icebreakers...

We debate the real issues!

This week’s very important team bonding question was:
Should Lightning McQueen have car insurance or health insurance?

The votes were split, the reasoning was passionate, and no final clinical consensus was reached.

At The Thrive Spot, we love the little moments that help our team connect, laugh and get to know each other outside of therapy notes, reports and planning.
Because a team that can laugh together can support each other better too.

So… what do you think?
Car insurance or health insurance?

Some speech sound practice this week got a little messy with shaving cream and paint!

Using hands-on activities like this helps keep little learners engaged while we practise target sounds in a fun, playful way. Repetition is so important for speech sound development, and when therapy feels like play, children are often more motivated to have another go.

Messy? Yes.
Worth it? Absolutely.

Our new foam pit has officially arrived at The Thrive Spot!

The team may have been just a little bit excited to test it out first.

Foam pits can be such a fun way to support therapy goals through movement, play and regulation.

Depending on the child, they may help with things like:

✨ building confidence with movement
✨ supporting sensory regulation
✨ encouraging climbing, jumping and motor planning
✨ creating opportunities for communication and social interaction
✨ making therapy feel playful, safe and motivating

At The Thrive Spot, we love finding ways to make therapy meaningful, engaging and fun. We can’t wait to see the joy, creativity and therapy magic that happens in this space.

We have a feeling this is going to be a very well-loved addition to the clinic. 💛

PDA isn’t defiance. It’s a need for autonomy!

During PDA Action Week, we’re helping raise awareness and understanding of a profile that’s often misunderstood.

For children with PDA, everyday demands can feel overwhelming — not because they won’t… but because they can’t in that moment.

When we shift from control → to connection
Everything changes.

Check out above to find out:
• What PDA actually is
• Why it shows up the way it does
• Practical, real-world ways to support your child

Because small changes in approach can create big shifts in trust, safety and connection.

🌸 Save this for later
💙 Share with someone who needs it
🤍 And remember — you’re not alone in this

Another PD day for our wonderful Maddy and Brooke!

They recently attended LAMP Words for Life training through Liberator AU and had a marvellous time deepening their knowledge of AAC, motor planning and how we can continue supporting communication in meaningful, practical ways.

They also got to explore some new games and resources that we can add to our clinic cupboards — because we never have enough!

We love seeing our team continue to grow their skills so we can keep providing evidence-informed, joyful and individualised support for the children and families we work with.

To all the mums, carers, grandmothers and mother figures in our community...

Today we celebrated the love, patience, advocacy, strength and endless care you give every single day.

We see the early mornings, the therapy appointments, the school meetings, the hard decisions, the cuddles after tough days and the way you continue to show up for your children with unwavering love.

Thank you for trusting us to be part of your family’s journey. It is a privilege to walk alongside such incredible families every day.

Hoping you had a Mother’s Day filled with love, connection, rest and little moments of joy.

Love, The Thrive Spot 💛

If your child finds writing tricky, frustrating, or tiring… this is a game changer!

Spelling in rice is more than just fun — it’s a powerful way to support learning without the pressure of pencil and paper.

Why it works:
• Engages sensory systems (great for regulation + focus)
• Reduces frustration (no “mistakes” — just smooth and try again!)
• Builds confidence before transferring to pencil
• Strengthens fine motor skills + finger isolation
• Supports letter formation through tactile feedback

But this isn't the only thing you can use! Some other easy alternatives to try are:
• Shaving foam writing in the bath
• Drawing letters in sand at the park
• Writing with chalk outside
• Using playdough to build letters
• Painting letters with water on concrete

The goal isn’t perfect writing — it’s building skills in a way that feels safe, fun, and achievable.

We take our PD seriously… because our clients deserve it.

Over the school holidays, Cody and Rhianon completed DIR Floortime training.

A key takeaway that’s shaping practice is that regulation and engagement come first.
Before connection, communication or skill-building can happen, we need to understand and support each child’s nervous system.

For our team, PD isn’t a tick-box. It’s how we:
• stay aligned with evidence-informed practice
• reflect on and refine what we’re doing
• ensure we’re showing up in the best way for the kids and families we support
