VICTORIAN WOMEN, THIS ONE IS FOR YOU! 💚

The green whistle (Penthrox) is now available for IUD procedures at every Women's Sexual and Reproductive Health Hub in Victoria. All 20 of them... Hallelujah.

It's the same fast-acting, short-term pain relief often used in emergency settings. You hold it. You stay in control. The days of "just take a Paracetamol beforehand" are behind us and we're not looking back.

Hub appointments are free, and yes, that includes regional Victoria. More than 11,000 Victorian women and girls used the hubs last year, and anyone walking through those doors for an IUD insertion or removal now has access to free, effective pain relief.

Shouldn’t this week really be called, ‘Conciliation Week’?

‘Conciliation’ is ’the act of bringing peace and harmony, the action of ending strife’.

‘Reconciliation’ means the ‘re-establishment of friendly relations’ and assumes there was an initial, positive relationship to begin with’.

In Australia’s case, there never were ‘friendly relations’ due to Invasion and the devastating, ongoing traumatic consequences of that.

First Nations Peoples have nothing to reconcile... it’s non-Aboriginal Australia that does!

It is us, non-Aboriginal Australia who need to make amends for the harm caused. ‘National Conciliation Week’ is the appropriate terminology…. and this is whitefullas work to do.

Learning about inters*x people, listening to their stories is vital - it exposes the binary bills as fully based bigotry and ignorance. They are harmful.

Imagine: You were female on the pre-natal scans and registered female at birth. You have a Y chromosome but your body doesn't respond to androgens in a typical way. You underwent feminising surgeries, on doctors' advice before you could consent. You didn't have a natural puberty because you were put on female hormones.
You didn't have any choice in how you've been treated, but you made it work for yourself. You feel female. You are female.
And now Alison Penfold's Bill says that you're a biological male who doesn't belong in female spaces.
Inters*x people need justice, not hate and ignorance
Reject bills that define biological s*x
