First day at Dizzy Clinics Darlinghurst!

Jordan is in clinic today for our very first day at our newest Sydney location.

It’s great to officially open the doors in Darlinghurst, inside Precision Hearing and right next door to Sydney ENT.

We’re looking forward to helping more people experiencing dizziness, vertigo and balance problems, from straightforward cases through to more complex vestibular conditions.

A great weekend representing Dizzy Clinics Australia at the APA Careers Connect Day!

Tara and Zoe spent the day meeting physiotherapists and students, showcasing the world of vestibular physiotherapy and sharing some of the work we do across Dizzy Clinics Australia.

It was a fantastic opportunity to talk all things dizziness, vertigo and balance, demonstrate some of the technology and equipment we use, and hopefully inspire more physiotherapists to explore this fascinating area of practice.

Meet Josh

We’re excited to welcome Josh Mitchell to the Dizzy Clinics Australia team as our Vestibular Physiotherapist.

Josh is local to the Goulburn area and holds a Doctor of Physiotherapy, with a strong interest in vestibular rehabilitation and helping people experiencing dizziness, vertigo and balance problems.

Josh joining the team also means we’re excited to be in Goulburn on a more regular basis, making vestibular physiotherapy more accessible for patients across Goulburn and the surrounding region.

Outside of work, Josh enjoys keeping active with gym training and trail running, finding a good coffee, and travelling with his family.

We’re very excited to have Josh on board and look forward to introducing him to our patients and referrers across the Goulburn region.

What are those goggles we’re always talking about?

They’re called infrared video goggles, and they’re an important part of vestibular assessment at Dizzy Clinics Australia.

The goggles remove visual fixation while allowing us to closely observe and record a patient’s eye movements in darkness.

Why is that important?

The inner ear and the eyes are closely connected. When something is happening within the vestibular system, it can produce specific involuntary eye movements called nystagmus.

In normal room light, the brain can sometimes suppress these eye movements, making them difficult to see. Infrared goggles allow our clinicians to see what might otherwise be missed.

The direction and pattern of nystagmus can provide valuable clues when assessing conditions such as BPPV and other vestibular disorders.

They might look a little unusual, but what we can see through them can tell us a lot about what’s happening inside the balance system.

Can you balance on foam? What about with your eyes closed?

It sounds simple, but standing on an unstable surface changes the information your brain receives from your feet and joints.

Close your eyes as well, and suddenly your brain has to rely much more heavily on your vestibular system to keep you upright.

This is why balance testing can tell us so much.

By changing the surface, vision and other sensory information available, we can challenge different parts of the balance system and better understand where difficulties may be coming from.

For someone experiencing unsteadiness, falls or a loss of confidence in their balance, these seemingly simple tests can provide valuable information.

At Dizzy Clinics Australia, we don’t just treat vertigo. Balance assessment and rehabilitation are a major part of what we do.

Dizzy Clinics Australia has opened a new dedicated vertigo, dizziness and vestibular clinic in Darlinghurst.

Our advanced vestibular physiotherapists assess and treat all vestibular conditions, from common causes of vertigo through to complex and persistent dizziness and balance disorders.

We work closely with ENT surgeons, neurologists and GPs across NSW & ACT and are excited to now offer our services in central Sydney.

Education is at the heart of what we do.

When Jordan started Dizzy Clinics Australia, one of his key goals was to help people better understand dizziness, vertigo and the vestibular system.

The vestibular system can be complex, but explaining it doesn’t have to be.

Using models, diagrams and plenty of conversation, Jordan loves doing what he does best: breaking down complicated vestibular conditions into something patients can actually understand.

Why am I dizzy? Why does moving my head cause symptoms? What exactly is BPPV? What are these “crystals” everyone talks about? And most importantly, what can we do about it?

We believe an informed patient is an empowered patient.

Sometimes a good explanation can make a complicated condition feel a whole lot less daunting.

The eyes can tell us a lot about the balance system.

A thorough oculomotor assessment is an important part of evaluating someone presenting with dizziness, vertigo or imbalance, and it should not be overlooked.

By assessing different types of eye movements, including smooth pursuit, saccades, gaze holding and visual tracking, clinicians can gather valuable information about how the visual, vestibular and neurological systems are functioning together.

Importantly, abnormalities in eye movements can sometimes indicate that symptoms may not be coming solely from the inner ear and may warrant further medical investigation.

At Dizzy Clinics Australia, oculomotor testing forms an important part of our comprehensive vestibular assessment.

Dizzy Clinics Australia is coming to Darlinghurst.

We’re excited to announce the opening of our newest clinic in Darlinghurst, Sydney, from 3 September.

Our Director, Jordan Loveridge, will be consulting from the new location, based within Precision Hearing at 65 Burton Street, Darlinghurst, in the same complex as Sydney ENT and other leading ENT specialists, and just down the road from St Vincent’s Hospital Sydney.

We’re looking forward to working alongside ENTs, neurologists and other health professionals across the region, and bringing our vestibular care to patients throughout Sydney’s inner city.

Our new Darlinghurst location also complements our existing Sydney clinics in Burwood, servicing the Inner West, and Gregory Hills, servicing South West Sydney, allowing us to provide greater access to vestibular care across Sydney.

We see people experiencing all type vertigo, dizziness and balance disorders.

How well can you see while your head is moving?

The Dynamic Visual Acuity test helps us assess how effectively your eyes and vestibular system work together to keep your vision clear during head movement.

During the test, we compare a person’s ability to read an eye chart while their head is still with their ability to read while the head is moving.

A reduction in visual clarity during head movement can provide valuable information about how well the vestibulo-ocular reflex, or VOR, is functioning.

This reflex works constantly in everyday life, helping keep the world visually stable while you walk, turn your head, exercise or move around.
