Small business supporting small business

One of the best parts of being local is getting to collaborate with other passionate people in our community — like our favourite plant legends Dan & Ally from Habitat Plant House.

We love partnering with local businesses because it helps all of us grow, reach new customers and introduce people to beautiful products they might never have discovered otherwise.

From artisan food and specialty cheese to indoor plants, homewares and gifts, shopping local keeps creativity and community alive right here in the Illawarra.
Plus… it means I occasionally become a foster plant mum while these leafy beauties hang out in the shop 🌱

If you haven’t visited Habitat Plant House in Port Kembla yet, do yourself a favour.

Amazing plants, stunning shop and genuinely epic humans

🇨🇭 Gruyère 1655 by Grangettes Dairy has landed — and supply is extremely limited.

Made high in the Swiss Alps using traditional raw milk methods, this exceptional Gruyère is rich, complex and beautifully balanced.

Aged to develop incredible depth, it delivers notes of roasted hazelnut, browned butter, alpine herbs and caramel, with those tiny crunchy protein crystals cheese lovers chase.

This is the kind of cheese that stops conversations at the table, and is on my table this weekend.

Made by the renowned Grangettes Dairy in Switzerland, Gruyère 1655 is crafted in small quantities and rarely hangs around for long once it arrives in store.

If you love Comté, Alpine cheeses or traditional Swiss Gruyère, this is one to try while it lasts.

Raw milk cheese isn’t a trend — it’s one of the oldest forms of cheesemaking in the world.

Made using unpasteurised milk, raw milk cheeses keep the natural bacteria, enzymes and terroir of the region alive in every wheel. The result? More complexity, deeper flavour and a true expression of the land, season and animal.

In Australia, raw milk cheese production is tightly regulated, but we’re lucky to have a small number of passionate cheesemakers producing incredible cheese.

Some to note is
Bruny island cheese, Tasmania (one of my personal favourites)
Prom Country, Victoria

Raw milk cheese isn’t about health fads or wellness buzzwords — it’s about heritage, craftsmanship, true connection to the land the milk has come from and a flavour that simply can’t be replicated.

If you’ve never tried one before, ask us what raw milk cheeses we currently have in store. Availability changes regularly and some are incredibly limited.

Earthy, perfumed, and undeniably unique.

A salumi that tells a story of the Australian bush?

This week we're slicing into the incredible Wild Venison & Gin Botanical Salami from . Crafted in Queensland, it combines 70% wild-shot venison from the high-altitude Granite Belt with free range pork fat, juniper, coriander seed, and native Australian strawberry gum.

The result? A distinctively mineral, herbaceous cure with a gorgeous hint of menthol and eucalyptus that completely changes the game.

And as an added bonus, it’s as good for the planet as it is for your palate.
Wild deer are an invasive pest species in parts of Australia, threatening native ecosystems and destroying fragile habitats. By choosing a wild-harvested game, you are helping to actively protect Australian biodiversity and support ethical, sustainable land management.

Mouth watering delicious, ethical and sustainable, what more can you ask for?

Hosting something special?

We love a challenge.

This week’s custom order brief was simple: cured meats and cheeses you can’t get just anywhere in the Gong.

We sourced incredible speciality products including a beautifully aged raw milk Gruyère and an indulgent triple cream truffle brie — all tailored to the host’s favourite flavours.

From intimate dinners and birthdays to weddings, long lunches and corporate grazing tables, with a little notice we can source just about anything for your next event.

Good food makes people gather longer.

Genmaicha: Tea & Toasted Rice
Yes, there’s toasted rice in the tea. And yes, it’s delicious.
Genmaicha is a Japanese green tea blended with roasted brown rice, creating a warm nutty flavour with grassy green tea notes and a savoury popcorn-like aroma.
Originally it was considered a “people’s tea” because rice made the tea more affordable and filling.
During roasting, some of the grains of rice pop, giving the tea its famous toasted popcorn aroma.

The result? A beautifully balanced cup that’s earthy, nutty, slightly sweet and incredibly comforting on cooler days.

If winter had a flavour profile, this might be it, it's definitely one of mine.
