Middle years assembly on Friday! We had much to celebrate with our wonderful middle years learners.

Bec shared about exciting Narbethong community events coming up: the Cross Country on 15 June and Pyjama Day on 22 June. It is also not long now until the June/July school holidays which will provide our students with the rest they need for more hard work in term 3.

In class celebrations, people shared about the wonderful work they are doing in writing persuasive texts, orientation & mobility (O&M), communication, self-advocacy and independence.

The students listened to Ditto’s song about ‘yes’ and ‘no’ feelings and discussed what to do if they have a ‘no’ feeling – tell a trusted adult. This led into the ‘I can do it’ song about resilience at school.

Students received Narby Brilliant Bee awards for persistence in exploring the environment, confident cane use, wearing glasses, using a communication device to learn and showing resilience. A very special “Golden Cane” award was presented to the fantastic Oval 2 learners who followed instructions to complete an O&M adventure together as a team. Well done to all Narby Brilliant Bees. We see your diligence and celebrate your achievements!

We had a great Senior assembly today. Assemblies are a space for connection, sharing and celebration but also an important learning time where we discuss the RESPECT themes and Narby Be’s. This week we focused on who we can trust and how to tell them if we are feeling unsafe or uncomfortable. We discussed “Being Resilient” and keeping “cool, calm and collected” and how to let a trusted person know if you need support to do this. Students chose the songs “Soak up the Sun” and “Three Little Birds” as two songs which clearly give the message of finding the positives in situations to listen and dance to.

We celebrated “Kicking our GIL (Guideline for Individualised Learning) Goals” through sharing a gardening program and reflecting on community-based learning experiences in the city this week.

A number of seniors received recognition of their learning with a Narby Be certificate. Achievements including advocating and making choices and positive engagement in learning in class and the community. Well done everyone!

Our Juniors participated in a special Reconciliation Week assembly today. This year’s theme is “All in for reconciliation”. We agreed we are “All in for learning about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people's culture through music”. Students listened to a variety of songs and thought about the connection to land, waterways and nature communicated through the music.

Classes celebrated their week of learning through sharing what they had been doing. Heart room shared a tactile poster they created about activities they and their families like to do in response to the National Simultaneous Storytime book “Luna Roo, the Kangaroo baller”. Swimming was a popular choice!

As always, we clapped and cheered for our classmates who received a Narby Be certificate. Learners were celebrated for great exploring and cane use, persistence in gross motor activities, and engaging in writing. Great work everyone!

Congratulations to our Middle Years learners who received Narby Be awards at assembly today. Our “Be a Narby Be” theme this round was “Be Persistent” and many of the awards were right on the mark with acknowledgement of students trying new things, persisting with messages to communication partners and working hard in their subject areas with great results. Students shared their enjoyment of reading and writing persuasive texts and creating tactile maps and descriptions of the new “Harmony Hive”. Our Middle Years learners really love learning!
