It’s been a big few weeks at Narby to finish off the winter and launch into Spring!

In week 5 we held another amazing Narby Carnival, with animal encounters, interactive sideshow alley games and sensory experiences including the “Under the Sea” tunnel created by our exceptional support services team (see the video for our SLP’s walkthrough)!

Last week we held three wonderful Book Week events including guest Alternative Format Library HOD, Angelique, visiting the Diamond 1 Pre-Prep class, Dotted Beats presenting two immersive soundscape shows based on the poem, “Home”, by Bronwyn Bancroft, and Narby regular, Harpist John performing to the school community. Each of these events were thoughtfully created around the “Symphony of stories” theme and presented to engage all of our senses and include every learner. The Dotted Beats team, including two former Narby ECDP students, showcasing music as a great pathway and connection for post-school.

We wrapped up August with a Senior School assembly where we heard all about their school-based work experience projects including the Fathers’ Day stall and another upcoming whole-school event they are organising to celebrate 25 years of Harry Potter movies to be held in Week 10.

Thanks to our P&C for organising the Fathers’ Day movie day last Saturday and happy Fathers’ Day to our school community for Sunday.

🐝 Narbee honey is back! 🐝 1kg glass jars of local raw honey are available for $15, or 500g for $8.50. 🍯

Order forms have been sent home from school, or you can email an order to [email protected] and collect from the school office on Tuesday 15th September.

In Speech Pathology week, the students and staff of Narby are thinking about what is the best way to show Catriona how much we appreciate her…

In our auditory scanned partner assisted PODD books, we could navigate to the ‘feelings’ page and choose ‘happy’ because learning to communicate with Catriona makes us happy.

We could find the ‘activities’ page and choose ‘fun’ because lessons with Catriona are always fun.

Or maybe we should go straight to the ‘chat’ page and choose ‘you’re awesome’ because Catriona is awesome at helping Narby students to find their voice to communicate what they want to say.

Thank you, Catriona, for inspiring all of us at Narby to keep on communicating!

Friday’s assembly was Junior Years.

Our Junior students showed their Narby Be persistence and resilience at this assembly with some staffing changes and tech challenges to overcome. Like every day, the students started by acknowledging the traditional owners of our land and waterways, the Yuggera and Turrbal people. They sang some songs and shared what they have been learning in class.

Teacher T was our very special guest bee to present the awards. She wore the yellow and black striped bee costume with wings and antennae. It was so fun!

A great morning of contributing and learning together in our Middle Years assembly today. Classes shared about the Australian poetry they have been enjoying reading in English lessons, their Orientation and Mobility lessons and overall fantastic engagement. Together we learnt about telling trusted people if we feel unsure or unsafe in our RESPECT program. We explored “Being Kind” in our “We Get Along at Narbethong” Narby Be values. Certificates were received for demonstrating kindness, trying new things with confidence, demonstrating curiosity, and great communication. Fabulous work everyone!
