We are starting up a Dad’s Yarning Circle! A monthly space for men who walk alongside Aboriginal children and young people in a caring role.

This is a space for Dads, Pops, Uncles and strong male kin to come together, sit down, yarn, and connect with one another.

A space to:

• Share stories, knowledge and experiences

• Support each other in the important role of caring for our kids

• Strengthen connection, culture and community

• Have a yarn in a safe, respectful and welcoming place

This yarning circle is about coming together in a good way. No judgement, just respect, listening and shared strength.

We look forward to bringing men together each month to yarn, learn and support one another in the journey of raising up strong young people.

Today we recognise Mabo Day — a significant moment in Australia’s history that acknowledged the rights of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples to their land.

We honour the legacy of Eddie Koiki Mabo, whose determination and strength led to the historic 1992 decision that overturned terra nullius and recognised native title.

At Eleanor Duncan Aboriginal Services, we acknowledge the importance of connection to Country, culture, and community in supporting social and emotional wellbeing.

Men’s wellbeing is strong when it is held within culture, community, and connection.

naawayi is for men who are ready to:

• Sit with and understand strong feelings in safer ways

• Strengthen kinship, family, and community relationships

• Break cycles that cause hurt and move toward healing

• Learn in a space that honours culture, respect, and lived experience

This is not about blame, it is about strengthening men, strengthening families, and strengthening community.

If you are a man looking for support, or you know someone who may benefit, ‘naawayi’ offers a culturally safe place to begin that journey.

National Sorry Day is a time to reflect on truth, acknowledge the impacts of the Stolen Generations, and honour the strength and resilience of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

This year, we wanted to move beyond information alone and instead create space for voice, healing, and connection. 🤎

We asked our staff:
“What does healing look like for our mob?”

The responses were honest and powerful and recognises that healing looks different for everyone — but together, we continue to walk forward with strength, truth, and hope.

Today, we acknowledge survivors, families, and communities affected by past government policies and recognise the ongoing importance of listening, learning, and healing together.
