TWC does Ella Restaurant | Darwin to:
🤎 Welcome Ruby to our team, who already has brought a wonderful additional set of skills and a genuine gentleness and care for her patients
🧡 Recognise all Laura has done in the last 7months of learning and continuing to develop into such a skilful, compassionate practitioner who everyone feels comfortable to be around
🤎 And to celebrate TWC being open for a year (I actually can’t remember what exact date but I think it was July-ish)

A little reflection. When I first starting business planning/ thinking about opening a women’s health clinic back in Jan/ Feb 2025, with a 7month old asleep on my chest and a 3yo adjusting to moving our entire life to Darwin, I was not feeling overly confident. I wrote a 1year, 3year and 5year plan/ projection. The 1 year projection was to have another Women’s health physio alongside me but I don’t think I actually thought that was going to happen, I just felt I needed to write something down…. And now I have two!! I am still pretty speechless how much generosity, support and encouragement the Darwin community has given me, from patients to fellow physios, to my friends and family.

Let’s see what the next year brings 🫣😄

You don’t ever need to apologise for being a human.

You can be grateful and disappointed.

You can be happy you can do light exercise but want to run.

You can acknowledge hormone changes but still hate how it’s making you feel.

You can be in awe of what your body has done for you and also feel a bit broken.

Because often pelvic health concerns aren’t very nice. No one wants to leak wee, or feel a golf ball is sitting between their legs, or have pain when they try to have s3x or feel like they could scream because someone left a cup on the sink. It’s NORMAL to feel disappointed, frustrated, upset, let down and sad.

You. Don’t. Need. To. Apologise. 🫶🫶🫶

More often than not, this is how your email/ DM/ voice message/ text finds me…

Lots of moving parts at the moment, all very exciting, but also at the end of the day I am their mum first 🤎

All the mums, the working mums, the stay at home mums, the mums juggling it all, I see you. And I’ll never make you feel bad for not doing your pelvic floor exercises 😂

This is your reminder that if the type of exercise you’ve been doing is feeling more like a chore than something you enjoy, your nervous system is feeling more wound up after rather than relaxed or you’re dreading your sessions because it feels like you have to go rather than getting to go, change things up!

We are adaptable, ever changing beings. What fulfilled you for a while might not be anymore and that is okay. Listen to your body, choose a slower pace, a higher pace, group, solo, heavy weights, high intensity, body weight, whatever you want because it feels good and it’s what you want to be doing, not what you should be doing.

No one form of exercise is better than the other. We want variety of cardiovascular and resistance, especially for women and especially those approaching perimenopause/ menopause. The type looks so different from person to person 🤎

Sunday morning research update- this topic on pelvic floor in exercise and sport, specially urinary incontinence.

Also welcome Ruby!! 🧡🧡

Some pretty interesting findings, most notably that incontinence with running is likely due to lower resting position of bladder neck resulting in dropping throughout a run and decreasing pressures acting on the urethra to keep pressures higher than the bladder and therefore leaking.. and what do we do? Well it’s a little grey, pelvic floor exercises may help for some people, modifying when people run (eg. In the morning rather than arvo) may help for others, support pessaries, teaching and implementing “the knack” for all other activities in the day that increase pressure to limit the amount of bladder neck descent throughout the day.

Basically, it means pelvic floor exercises aren’t always the only answer, and that individualised assessment and treatment planning is needed always.

Always learning, always upskilling and bettering our clinical reasoning to improve patient outcomes 🏃‍♀️ 🏋️ 🤸‍♂️
