We gathered community to celebrate this life growing inside me a few weeks ago. I wasn’t particularly inspired by the idea of a traditional baby shower and it felt important to include Nick in this MASSIVE initiation from couple to family.
To be honest, I started planning this at 6-weeks pregnant (I am an avid planner… and let’s be real, I have been waiting a long time for this chapter of life). By the time the week rolled around for our event, we both started feeling anxious about receiving/being the centre of attention. Luckily I was able to shift that to a pure and vulnerable gratitude… for dear friends travelling from the Gold Coast, for family’s help organising and making it super special, for the friends who said yes and made the effort and for the magical land that we gathered on.
The women sat in circle, shared deeply, nourished and nurtured me completely, found flow in craft and connection. The kids and babies were a part of it, including young maidens who sat in circle (perhaps for the first time) and shared/listened/witnessed. It was potent. The men did a hike, sauna, lunch, chats and deep shares. We all came together at the end of the day, feeling refreshed, supported and totally loved up (at least that’s how I felt). Sharing food and presence around the fire, under the stars. It felt important to mark this life changing occasion.
Community is such a big part of health and wellbeing, don’t you think?
