🧂 How much salt are you eating without realizing it?
The salt you add while cooking and/or eating is only part of the picture. Sauces, chips, cheese, canned soups, licorice tea, ready meals and fast foods can add a surprising amount too.
The WHO recommends less than 5g of salt per day for adults, while the average salt intake is 9g per day. Almost twice as high.
Eating too much sodium can raise blood pressure, which increases the risk of developing heart disease.
This week’s healthy habit: Check the sodium or salt content on food labels. In the US, “low sodium” means 140 mg sodium or less per serving. In the EU, “low sodium/salt” means 120 mg sodium or less per 100 g or 100 ml. Check the serving size before comparing products.
