Let’s talk about what we sometimes avoid talking about 🤍
Recently, several of our Care Companions at Eden Embrace had the opportunity to attend the DEDICATED workshop, focused on person-centered palliative care for people living with dementia.
It left us with one simple, but important message:
It’s never too early to have these conversations.
What does quality of life mean to you?
What kind of care would bring you comfort?
What matters most to you when it comes to your wishes and preferences for the future?
These aren’t easy questions. So often, we put them off because we think, “There’s still plenty of time.” And hopefully, there is. But life can be unpredictable. When we haven’t shared our wishes, our loved ones may be left making difficult decisions for us during an already emotional time.
So, where do we begin?
With ourselves🤍
Take a moment to think about what you would want, what would bring you comfort, and what truly matters to you. Once you have a better understanding of your own wishes, it can feel a little easier to open that door with the people you love.
And you don’t have to have all the answers.
A conversation can simply begin with, “Have you ever thought about what matters most to you when it comes to your care?”
For us at Eden Embrace, these conversations are also part of the care we provide. With the people we visit, we make space for their wishes, values, stories, and what matters most to them, always gently, respectfully, and at their own pace.
Because knowing someone is part of caring for them.
We invite you to take that first step too. Talk to your parents. Your partner. Your children. Your friends.
You may not know exactly what to say, and that’s okay. You don’t need all the answers. You just need to start.
At Eden Embrace, we’re here to walk alongside you and your loved ones through the conversations, the questions, the difficult moments, and all the moments in between🤍
