Danger Signs in Diabetes — When Should You Seek Immediate Medical Help? | DIABETES HEALTH SERIES — POST #20 🩸

Did you know that some symptoms of very low or very high blood sugar in diabetes can indicate a life-threatening emergency? 👀

It is essential for diabetes patients and their families to recognize danger signs and get help in time.

🔻 Symptoms of Very Low Blood Sugar

🔹 Sweating, trembling or rapid heartbeat
🔹 Intense hunger, dizziness or weakness
🔹 Confusion, unusual behavior or difficulty speaking
🔹 Loss of consciousness or seizure

⚠️ If the patient is conscious and can swallow, immediately give 15 grams of fast-acting sugar, for example glucose tablets or about half a cup of regular juice. Recheck sugar after 15 minutes. If the patient is unconscious or cannot swallow, do not give anything by mouth; get emergency help immediately.

🔺 Dangerous Symptoms of Very High Blood Sugar

🔹 Extreme thirst and frequent urination
🔹 Nausea, vomiting or abdominal pain
🔹 Deep or rapid breathing
🔹 Fruity-smelling breath
🔹 Severe weakness, drowsiness or confusion

🚨 Get Emergency Help Immediately If:

✅ The patient is unconscious or has a seizure.
✅ There is difficulty breathing or deep, rapid breathing.
✅ There is persistent vomiting, severe abdominal pain or confusion.
✅ Condition does not improve despite immediate treatment for low sugar.

🛡️ Principles to Prevent Emergency Situations

✅ Monitor blood sugar regularly.
✅ Use medicines and insulin as per doctor's instructions.
✅ Keep glucose with you for immediate use in case of low sugar.
✅ Inform family members about emergency symptoms and first aid.
✅ Do not change your medicine or insulin dose on your own.

📌 Remember: Do not wait for a sugar reading in every emergency. In case of severe symptoms, seek immediate medical help.

| DIABETES HEALTH SERIES — POST #20 🩸

How Can Diabetes Damage the Kidneys? — Key Principles for Kidney Protection | DIABETES HEALTH SERIES — POST #19 🩸

Did you know that in diabetes, kidney damage can occur without any obvious symptoms in the early stages? 👀

The kidneys remove waste products and extra water from the blood. High blood sugar for a long time can affect the small blood vessels of the kidneys, which can gradually reduce kidney function.

🔍 Possible Signs of Kidney Problems

🔹 Swelling in feet, ankles or legs
🔹 Foamy urine, which can sometimes be a sign of protein presence
🔹 Tiredness or weakness
🔹 Loss of appetite or nausea
🔹 Unusual changes in urine amount

⚠️ Important Note: These signs are not only due to kidney disease, and in early kidney disease there is often no symptom. So do not wait for symptoms alone.

🧪 Important Tests to Check Kidney Health

✅ Blood creatinine and eGFR (kidney filtration rate)
✅ Urine albumin and creatinine ratio (UACR)
✅ Regular monitoring of blood pressure and blood sugar

🛡️ How to Protect Your Kidneys?

✅ Keep blood sugar under control as per your doctor's target.
✅ Monitor blood pressure.
✅ Take prescribed medicines regularly.
✅ Consult your doctor before frequent use of painkillers, especially ibuprofen or diclofenac.
✅ Limit salt intake and adopt a balanced diet.
✅ Get kidney tests done regularly as advised by your doctor.

🚨 When to Seek Urgent Medical Help?

If you have difficulty breathing, sudden severe swelling, confusion or a very large decrease in urine, seek urgent medical help.

📌 Remember: In patients with diabetes, early detection of kidney disease is very important. Proper treatment and regular tests can help reduce the risk of further kidney damage.

DIABETES HEALTH SERIES — POST #19 🩸

How Does Stress Affect Blood Sugar in Diabetes? — Why Mental Health Care Matters | DIABETES HEALTH SERIES — POST #18 🩸

Did you know that ongoing stress can make it harder for some people to keep their blood sugar under control? 👀

When we are under stress, levels of hormones like cortisol and adrenaline can change. This can raise blood sugar, while stress can also disrupt your routines for sleep, diet, exercise, and medication.

🔍 Common Signs of Stress
🔹 Anxiety or constant worry
🔹 Disturbed sleep
🔹 Fatigue and irritability
🔹 Difficulty concentrating
🔹 Unexpected changes in sugar levels

🛡️ 6 Helpful Ways to Reduce Stress

✅ Practice slow, deep breathing for a few minutes daily.
✅ Take regular walks according to your health condition.
✅ Keep a consistent sleep routine.
✅ Eat a balanced diet and keep meal times regular.
✅ Share your worries with family or a trusted friend.
✅ Monitor your blood sugar and use medicines as advised by your doctor.

⚠️ Important: Stress does not affect blood sugar the same way in everyone. If your sugar remains consistently high or low, contact your doctor. Do not change your medicine or insulin dose on your own.

💚 Also give importance to your mental health. If anxiety persists, daily life is affected, or sadness and anxiety keep increasing, seeking help from a healthcare professional can be useful.

📌 Remember: Diabetes management is not limited to just measuring sugar; taking care of both physical and mental health is essential.

| DIABETES HEALTH SERIES — POST #18 🩸

How Lack of Sleep Affects Blood Sugar in Diabetes — Why Good Sleep Matters? | DIABETES HEALTH SERIES — POST #17 🩸

Did you know that not getting enough sleep can make it harder to control your blood sugar? 👀

Sleep affects your body's hormones, appetite, and how insulin works. Consistently poor or short sleep can reduce insulin sensitivity in some people, which can make diabetes management more challenging.

🔍 Possible Signs of Sleep Deprivation
🔹 Daytime tiredness and drowsiness
🔹 Difficulty concentrating
🔹 Increased appetite or craving for sweets
🔹 Morning blood sugar higher than expected
🔹 Irritability and mood changes

🛡️ 6 Key Rules for Better Sleep and Blood Sugar

✅ Go to bed and wake up at roughly the same time every day.
✅ Adults generally aim for 7 to 9 hours of sleep.
✅ Avoid caffeine and heavy meals before bedtime.
✅ Reduce mobile and screen time before sleep.
✅ Stay physically active during the day.
✅ Monitor your blood sugar and take medicines as advised by your doctor.

⚠️ Do you wake up frequently at night?

If you snore loudly, feel like your breathing stops during sleep, or feel excessively sleepy during the day, talk to your doctor. These can be symptoms of sleep apnea.

📌 Remember: Good sleep helps with diabetes management, but it is not a substitute for medication, a balanced diet, or physical activity. Do not change your medicine or insulin dose on your own.
