"I'll never forget stumbling across an event hall floor in flat shoes. Not heels... flat shoes. I couldn't even trust my own feet anymore."
Grace, spent five years recovering from Topical Steroid Withdrawal (TSW) and eczema.
The physical and emotional toll of her recovery meant she had lost significant strength and muscle mass. Determined to get better, she decided to take up resistance training.
Working alongside Coach Kim, Grace's goal wasn't simply to get stronger. It was to rebuild trust in her body while managing her flare-ups through a training approach that respected her condition, alongside supportive recovery strategies such as red light therapy.
Over time, that progress began to show.
She went from struggling to lift 3 kg dumbbells to confidently deadlifting over 30 kg. More importantly, she regained the ability to move through everyday life with confidence.
"Climbing the stairs is no longer tiring. I can carry heavy groceries and manage household chores without feeling drained or difficult.
But here's what really surprised me: my skin improved too. Turns out resistance training helps lower CCL28, a marker linked to eczema inflammation, and I could actually see the difference.
My skin looked clearer, and I could finally handle sweat without flaring up."
Today, Grace is a passionate advocate for TSW and eczema awareness. Through sharing her story, she hopes to encourage others living with similar challenges to keep moving, nourish their bodies, and remember that progress is still possible, even when the journey is different.
Every journey is unique.
