Building Skills, Building Hope | Rohingya Camp 7, Cox's Bazar

Meet Ali Juhur —a WASH volunteer in Rohingya Refugee Camp 7 whose story shows what's possible when displaced people are given the chance to learn, grow, and lead.
Like nearly a million Rohingya refugees, Ali fled violence in Myanmar with nothing. Through NGO Forum for Public Health's WASH programme, he received on-the-job training in carpentry, masonry, and plumbing — and today, he's one of the community's most trusted technicians.
Ali is no longer just a refugee — to his community, he's a technician, a problem-solver, and a role model.

From Waste to Wealth: The MRF Journey

With support from UNICEF, NGO Forum for Public Health implemented WASH interventions in Camp 4, Ukhiya, Cox’s Bazar, where community participation has been at the heart of improved solid waste management. Through the Material Recovery Facility (MRF), household waste is segregated, collected and transformed into useful resources. Organic waste becomes compost for household gardening, while recyclable polythene is turned into products such as pit rings, covers and drain slabs for WASH facilities.
Our documentary, “From Waste to Wealth: The MRF Journey,” highlights how community participation and practical recycling solutions contribute to cleaner surroundings and more sustainable WASH services.

Every Drop Counts | Rohingya Camp 6, Cox's Bazar

In the Rohingya camps, thousands of families depend on shared water systems and every drop matters. Yet, water at communal tap stands was often draining away unused, while handwashing devices nearby stood dry.
NGO Forum for Public Health, with UNICEF's support, introduced a simple but sustainable solution: a wastewater reuse system. Drainage water from tap stands is now collected, filtered, and reused for handwashing after latrine use, and for keeping latrines clean.

"Previously we would sometimes get water in the handwashing device, sometimes not. Now, after this device, we get water all the time." — Md. Rashid, Camp 6

Turning Waste into Hope | One of the World's Largest Humanitarian FSTP

With support from UNICEF, NGO Forum for Public Health is helping ensure safer and more sustainable sanitation services for Rohingya communities in Cox’s Bazar.

Our documentary, “Turning Waste into Hope,” showcases the IFSTN and Mega Centralized Faecal Sludge Treatment Plant, where faecal sludge from more than 153,000 people across five refugee camps is safely collected and treated. Using natural biological processes and a largely gravity-driven treatment system, the facility helps reduce contamination risks, protect the environment and transform dried sludge into useful co-compost.

🎥 Watch the documentary to discover how innovation and dedicated WASH teams are turning a major sanitation challenge into a sustainable solution. Proudly implemented by NGO Forum for Public Health, with the support of UNICEF Bangladesh.

Improper solid waste management and environmental pollution pose significant challenges to sustainable development, particularly in coastal communities. To address these issues, NGO Forum for Public Health, with support from the UNDP, established Green Clubs in educational institutions under the Sustainable Solid Waste Management (SSWM) Project. The Green Clubs promote environmental protection by encouraging students to practice the 4R Principles. Through awareness activities, waste segregation, recycling, and community clean-up campaigns, students become active environmental ambassadors, inspiring positive behavioral change in their schools and communities.
