Amoxicillin is a β-lactam antibiotic that inhibits bacterial cell-wall synthesis.
Some bacteria produce β-lactamase enzymes, which can break down amoxicillin.
Clavulanic acid inhibits these β-lactamases and protects amoxicillin from degradation.
This allows amoxicillin to remain active for longer against susceptible bacteria.
Thus, clavulanic acid extends the antibacterial spectrum of amoxicillin.
The combination is called amoxicillin–clavulanic acid and is commonly used for β-lactamase–producing infections.

Classification of Topical Corticosteroids (with one use each):
Class I (Super-high potency): Clobetasol propionate 0.05% – Used for severe psoriasis and lichen planus.
Class II (High potency): Fluocinonide 0.05% – Used for severe eczema and chronic dermatitis.
Class III–V (Medium potency): Mometasone furoate 0.1% – Used for atopic dermatitis and moderate inflammatory dermatoses.
Class VI (Low potency): Desonide 0.05% – Used for mild eczema on the face and in children.
Class VII (Least potent): Hydrocortisone 1% – Used for mild dermatitis, insect bites, and diaper rash.
Principle: Use the lowest effective potency for the shortest duration to minimize adverse effects.

Drug of choice (uncomplicated typhoid): Azithromycin (oral).
Drug of choice (severe/hospitalized typhoid): Ceftriaxone (IV).
Cefixime is an oral alternative in selected uncomplicated cases.
Ciprofloxacin is not recommended for empirical therapy in many regions because of widespread resistance.
Treatment should ideally be guided by culture and antibiotic susceptibility testing.
Supportive care (adequate hydration, antipyretics, and nutrition) is an important part of management.
