Academic Session Series | Gastrointestinal Oncology
The Department of Clinical Oncology conducted another academic session in its ongoing educational series, focusing on the comprehensive management of Colon Cancer.
Building upon foundational discussions of disease biology, staging, and diagnostic evaluation, this presentation concentrated on evidence-based treatment approaches, including multidisciplinary management strategies, surgical principles, systemic therapy options, and contemporary treatment sequencing in colon cancer care.
Particular emphasis was placed on the role of surgery as the cornerstone of curative treatment for localized disease, with detailed discussion on operative approaches according to tumor location, including right and left hemicolectomy, sigmoid colectomy, and selected indications for more extensive surgical procedures.
The session also highlighted current standards of care, patient selection considerations, and evolving evidence guiding individualized treatment decisions in colon cancer management.
