MPE was formed following the merger in 2011 of the European Myeloma Platform and Myeloma Euronet. MPE is registered as a non-profit organisation (AISBL) under Belgian law and its headquarter is located in Brussels. MPE has a number of broad aims including:
• Collaborating on pro

• Exchanging information and best practice
• Developing existing patient groups and encouraging and facilitating the setting up of new groups
• Helping to shape appropriate health- related policies and initiatives on a European and national level
• Ensuring patients across Europe receive timely access to new treatment
• Stimulating and promoting patient- centred research and clinical trials
• Developing a strong evidence base for the needs and wants of patients and their role in research
• Providing information, educational and outreach programmes to member groups

To meet its aims and in addition to its membership, MPE works directly with healthcare professionals, reimbursement authorities, regulators, politicians, pharmaceutical companies, the media and anyone involved in the ‘myeloma community’.

More flexibility on the horizon for myeloma patients in Europe!

The European Commission has approved a subcutaneous (under the skin) formulation of isatuximab (Sarclisa®), covering all myeloma indications already approved for the intravenous version.

What makes this approval particularly notable is the CirCLIQ® on-body injector, a small wearable device that delivers the treatment automatically under the skin. It is the first anticancer treatment in the EU approved for delivery via an on-body injector and could allow treatment to take place in outpatient settings or even at home, reducing the time patients spend in hospital or travelling to it.

Nutrition during myeloma treatment matters — but it is not always easy to eat well when side effects get in the way.

A few helpful tips:
- Eat little and often if large meals feel difficult.
- Carry healthy snacks when you leave the house.
- Stay well hydrated — aim for 1.5 to 2 litres of fluid a day.
- Ask your team about a referral to a dietitian if you are unsure.

Small changes can make a real difference to your energy and wellbeing.

Managing uncertainty in myeloma isn't talked about enough — the anxiety of waiting for what's next.

Waiting for results, waiting to see if treatment is working, waiting for the next appointment. For many people living with myeloma, the uncertainty between appointments can be just as difficult to manage as the treatment itself.

Contact your local myeloma organisation if you feel you need more support with this https://www.mpeurope.org/about-mpe/our-members/

Do you feel like your myeloma treatment is not working for you?

Only you know your body. Advocating for yourself is one of the most important things you can do.

Contact your team if something has changed, without waiting for your next appointment.

Ask them to explain your latest results. Is your M-protein or free light chain level rising?

If you feel you are not being heard, ask for a referral to a specialist myeloma centre or a second opinion.

Today is

Clinical trials have brought us the treatments that are transforming myeloma care today. Thank you to all the patients, carers, clinicians and researchers across Europe and beyond who take part in a clinical trial and make progress possible.

The MPE Clinical Trial Navigator helps patients, carers and healthcare professionals find trials across Europe, covering myeloma, smouldering myeloma, MGUS and AL amyloidosis.

Smouldering myeloma is an early, asymptomatic form of myeloma that can progress to active myeloma?

In most cases, it does not need treatment, but diagnosed patients will be monitored regularly.
