A success story from our EUnetCCC partner IPO Porto: Porto.CCC has won the People’s Choice Award at the REGIOSTARS Awards 2026! 🏆

Developed jointly by the Instituto Português de Oncologia do Porto (IPO-Porto) and i3S at the University of Porto, Porto.CCC – TeamUp4Cancer received the most public votes among 25 finalists. It was the only Portuguese project and the only health project to reach the final.

More than 1,500 patients have already benefited from precision oncology through this initiative, which brings research and innovation closer to patient care.

“This is a very important vote of confidence,” said Professor Júlio Oliveira, President of the Board of Directors of IPO Porto, following the award.

As a partner in the EUnetCCC Joint Action, IPO Porto brings valuable experience in connecting research, innovation and clinical practice. This achievement illustrates the contribution that comprehensive cancer centres can make, supported by European investment and close collaboration between institutions.

For EUnetCCC, this success reflects a shared ambition: connecting expertise, research and care so that more people across Europe can access comprehensive cancer care.

Congratulations to everyone at IPO Porto and i3S whose work made this possible, and to all those who voted!

🎬 That's a wrap on the Molecular Tumour Board (MTB) Summit 2026!

A heartfelt thank you to all our speakers, to our hosts at IFO – IRCCS Regina Elena National Cancer Institute, and to everyone who joined us in Rome on 24–25 September.

Over two days, clinicians, pathologists, bioinformaticians, researchers, patient advocates, payers and policymakers came together around one shared question: how do we make molecular tumour boards a strong, accessible pillar of precision cancer care across Europe?

From MTB organisation and equity to patient perspectives and ethics, access to clinical trials, decision support tools, and health technology assessments and reimbursement pathways, the discussions showed how much we gain when we work across centres, countries and disciplines.

We hope everyone went home with new knowledge, fresh ideas, valuable connections and good memories. 💙

▶️ Watch the highlights video below, and stay tuned for what comes next. We look forward to continuing the discussions at the EUnetCCC annual meeting in Lisbon on 26 and 27 November!

Gold September may be over, but the fight against childhood cancer continues all year round.

Cancer is rare in children and adolescents, yet it remains the leading cause of death from disease among young people in Europe.

At the EUnetCCC Molecular Tumour Board (MTB) Summit in Rome on 24 September, we spoke with Prof. Gilles Vassal, paediatric oncologist at Gustave Roussy Comprehensive Cancer Centre (France), about what needs to change:

👉"We need better access to new therapies for children and adolescents, and we must tackle inequalities across Europe in access to new and innovative medicines."

Closing these gaps is exactly why cooperation between Comprehensive Cancer Centres matters, so that every young patient, wherever they live, can benefit from the best available care.

Comprehensive Cancer Care Networks are built through connections: between organisations, professionals, standards, expertise, data and patient pathways.

👉 Today we launch 𝗖𝗖𝗖𝗡 𝗖𝗢𝗡𝗡𝗘𝗖𝗧𝗘𝗗, a new weekly EUnetCCC series dedicated to Comprehensive Cancer Care Networks (CCCNs).

Over six episodes, we will explore the building blocks of CCCNs: from standards and training to certification, quality measurement and patient pathways.

𝗘𝗮𝗰𝗵 𝘄𝗲𝗲𝗸, 𝘄𝗲 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗮𝗻𝘀𝘄𝗲𝗿 𝗮 𝗸𝗲𝘆 𝗾𝘂𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻:
1️⃣ What is a Comprehensive Cancer Care Network?
2️⃣ What does a CCCN need to deliver high-quality care?
3️⃣ How can CCCNs be supported in practice?
4️⃣ How does a CCCN move towards certification?
5️⃣ How can quality of care be measured?
6️⃣ What does coordinated care look like across the patient pathway?

Together, these resources provide healthcare professionals, policymakers and patients with an overview of what defines CCCNs, helping to strengthen collaboration and support high-quality, coordinated cancer care across Europe.

6 weeks. 6 topics. 1 connected story.

The EUCCC Certification Scheme is ready — join us!

A robust, independent, impartial and peer-assessed European certification for Comprehensive Cancer Centres is now ready. More than 30 candidate centres have already started their certification journey, helping shape the future of excellence in cancer care across Europe.

We are pleased to announce the finalisation of the enhanced EUCCC Certification Scheme, following extensive validation through a field test carried out in 9 volunteer cancer centres across Europe.

Building on the lessons learned during this real-world testing phase, three key resources are now available on the EUnetCCC Portal:
✅The EUCCC Certification Scheme Manual, for centres already engaged — or wishing to engage — in the certification process
✅The latest Set of Criteria and Standards for EU Comprehensive Cancer Centres
✅The revised Self-Assessment Tool for Certification

Why does it matter?
🟣Patient first
A common European certification gives patients entering an EU-Certified Comprehensive Cancer Centre a guarantee: access to the highest standards of cancer care, the latest research advances, and the best-trained healthcare professionals. When it comes to cancer, postcode should never determine destiny.

🟣Building on solidarity
Experienced centres, clinicians, researchers and leaders are supporting their peers across Europe to meet demanding standards, drive continuous improvement, and progress towards certification.

🟣Scaling up a European platform
A shared European reference framework and common EU label will strengthen collaboration, enhance Europe's leadership in cancer care and research, boost competitiveness, and help attract top healthcare professionals.

Together, we are building a stronger, more connected European cancer ecosystem, where excellence, collaboration and patient-centred care go hand in hand.
