Navratri honours goddess Durga - a powerful manifestation of Shakti - throughout nine days.
On the 10th day, the victory of good over evil is celebrated. Every day, through mythology and rituals that differ from region to region, a different form and quality of Durga is worshipped.
Think of qualities such as courage, fearlessness, boundary-setting, protection, nourishment, righteous rage, self-validation, and self-sovereignty.
For me, it is the emphasis on these qualities that makes this festival so valuable. They are essential for living a healthy, joyful and liberated life - true to yourself, and in connection with your environment. Questioning and embracing them, makes us understand our true worth, and become inwardly powerful and peaceful. Through this process, we can become an awakened woman, no longer asleep to our own goddess capacities.
In a patriarchal society which represses many of these qualities - in men and women - Navratri brings inspiration and supportive energies, to remember and embody our power, and the wholeness of ourselves.
The goddesses from days 4-6 made me reflect on
- love as a way to light up the world,
- what a safe space looks like to me (not to be confused with comfort zone, I realised)
- how darkness brings us strength, depth, courage and helps us moving closer to our true selves
Thanks Natasha Mahindra for the narratives, prompts and guided meditations!
I don’t know if it’s me or the rising energies, but I’ve been way more discerning and direct in who/what I spend my time & energy on, and much clearer in asserting boundaries.
Ready for the final 3 days!
