Paulina, a Tsimane mother in the bolivian Amazon, was alone, gravely ill, and could not afford the care that could possibly save her life.

Paulina has been losing her battle against pulmonary tuberculosis and malnutrition. As her condition worsened, she had to leave her community to seek medical attention in the town of Rurrenabaque — almost always without her husband as he travels back and forth from the Community (7 hours by boat) to tend to their Chaco (food farm) so that he can bring rice, beans and the other basic foods they grow to keep them from going hungry.

She arrived in Rurrenabaque with her young son. No roof over her head. No money. Barely speaking the Spanish required to navigate the medical system.

That was when our advocate Lucas stepped in. Our team member had known the couple for several years and is there so that she need not face this alone. Lucas is her advocate, her friend, and her unconditional support. Her 4-year-old son has also had to undergo treatment as a precaution given how contagious this disease is and we are supporting both of them throughout these 6 months of medical care. We set up a tent, mattress, sheets, a stove and gas for cooking, etc., to shelter them during the rainy season and make sure they have food every day. Lucas also continues to visit her daily through her recovery.

Her mother died from the same illness. We are doing all we can to keep that from happening again.

And today? She is slowly regaining her strength. 💚but she is not out of the woods yet.

This is what we are here for. We dream of a day when our economic empowerment programs allow these communities to sustain themselves in crises like this. We work to fund a women’s center that has clean and dry rooms and bathrooms for long term recovery needs such as Paulina’s. But change is slow, and lives cannot wait.

She entrusted us with her story — and allows us to share it — with the hope that it moves you to make sure the next person in crisis doesn’t have to face it alone either.

Let her courage be worth it. Donate through the link below and help us continue to be present when it matters most.

In early February, the unique and vibrant town Rurrenabaque, located near the Pilón Lajas Reserve where our indigenous communities work, trade, and go to school, celebrated its anniversary with an incredible festival. Our communities showcased their ancestral skills including archery with handmade bows and arrows, a traditional fishing and hunting method that is still used today. The precision with which they hit their targets and the uniqueness of their craftsmanship, combined with the permanent connection they have with tradition, were simply beautiful to witness. 🏹

Shortly after, our community coordinator brought beautiful handmade jewelry by the Tsimane women from Corte to the city of Cochabamba to sell. Watching these artists receive their first income from their creativity and hard work was undoubtedly a powerful moment for everyone involved. This is what economic and cultural empowerment look like. ✨

As 2025 comes to a close, we celebrate the incredible strides we've made together for the children, families, and future of the Amazon. We look back on a year of profound partnership:

💖 Women’s Workshops: Pilón Lajas's women are creating beautiful jewelry, expressing their culture and building economic opportunity through art.
💓 Emergency Support: Providing critical medical coverage for illness and emergencies, ensuring health and stability.
💞 Yanela’s Triumph: Celebrating a young woman's high school graduation—a milestone for her and her entire community.
💝 A New Playground: Completing a safe, joyful space for children to play and grow.
✨ Empowered Education: Supporting community advocacy for the return of a beloved teacher, ensuring powerful, authentic education.

These milestones were made possible by you. And there’s still time to create even more impact! Make your tax-deductible donation before the year ends to protect the Amazon and its guardians. Together, we can continue this vital work in 2025 and beyond.

Yanela has achieved something extraordinary: she became only the fourth high school graduate from her entire community.

Her home is a twelve-hour canoe journey upriver. School has always been a monumental challenge. Your support has helped remove the barriers that stop students like her: transportation, school fees, supplies, and food insecurity.

For a determined girl caring for her three younger siblings in a tiny home in a flood zone, far from her parents, this support has meant everything. She dreams of becoming a nurse or a tourism guide, to support her family and give back to the forest she loves.

Your gift removes obstacles, opens doors, and changes everything. It makes futures like Yanela’s possible. ✨

17/12/2025

This holiday season, the most meaningful gift often isn't wrapped in paper. It’s the feeling of knowing your small, kind contribution reaches across the world to a family in Pilón Lajas. ❤️

Your donation is a direct embrace of their future. it becomes support for a child's education, protection for their ancestral forest, and the simple, powerful gift of cultural continuation.

🌱 Together, we nurture hope where it matters most.

Today, your feed is full of big numbers, big campaigns, and big asks. But we want to offer something a little quieter.

🌱 In the Bolivian Amazon, where we walk beside the Mosetén and Tsimané nations, Giving Tuesday looks a little bit different. A little bit more human.

It looks like children laughing and climbing on a playground their community built with their own hands. Mothers gathering together for jewelry-making workshops that help restore cultural traditions and support their families. Families receiving care for illnesses and injuries, in places where medical access is often hours away 💛

Real people. Real work. Real resilience.

If you feel called to support something small, rooted, and deeply human today, we invite you into our circle. Your generosity goes directly to the communities who protect one of the world’s last living rainforests. Not with campaigns, but with courage.

Thank you for seeing us. Thank you for choosing small, meaningful impact today.

This Thanksgiving, we gather with immense gratitude. We are thankful for the immense diversity of the Indigenous communities of Pilón Lajas, who keep ancient wisdom alive. For the clean air that fills our lungs, and for the donations that allow us to help. Our work fills us with life, letting us give back.

And especially, we are thankful for our friends, the future of our world and nature. Your support protects it all.
