Doing portraits on skin is already a huge challenge, but tattooing the face of a small child is a whole different level of complexity. The features are extremely subtle, the shadow transitions need to be surgically precise so the expression doesn’t look older, and even a millimeter out of place can completely change the person’s identity. It requires an insane level of focus, refined technique, and a tremendous amount of patience from the artist.
But when the work is done with dedication, the result makes every second worth it. This tattoo was a beautiful tribute from a grandmother to her granddaughter. She sat through the entire session so calmly, trusting my work with her eyes closed. Seeing her reaction and the love overflowing when she looked at the final result is what makes everything worthwhile.
