Family Physicians

The primary care specialist.
Primary care ke eng?
Di clinic, di primary hospital le di district hospital.
Ke gone ko re bonwang teng.

Why do we need them instead of a GP?
Because they are trained on comprehensive care, ke gore they understand health from not just bolwetsi ka bo jone but also the psychology of whats going on and the sociology of whats going on.

This means ha mathata a life a iponatsa as a medical problem we can diagnose that and get you help, as opposed to getting all sorts of tests and still end up without a diagnosis ka gore tota ga se gore bolwetsi ke jo bo physical.
Hence lehoko comprehensive meaning whole or holistic, ke gore bolwetsi ga re bo lebe ka angle e 1.
This is why I wrote a book on mental health. Koore ke na le right ya go akgela ka bolwetsi bongwe le bongwe except surgery, but of course we do minor surgeries.

And re attenda all patients, from newborn to motho o eleng gore re kare malatsi a gagwe a badilwe, meaning End of life ka sekgoa. Ka sekgoa rare ke cradle to grave.

Happy World Family Doctor Day. 💚

We are living in a time that calls for more grace, more patience and more kindness toward one another.

Behind many smiles are silent battles: emotional pain, financial pressure, relationship strain, unresolved trauma, exhaustion and quiet thoughts people often do not speak about.

Mental health is no longer a distant conversation. It is here, in our homes, workplaces, families, friendships and communities.

This season reminds us that being human requires compassion. A kind word matters. Checking on someone matters. Listening without judgment matters.

Sometimes what a person needs most is not advice but safety, understanding and space to breathe.

As conversations around mental health continue to grow, may we choose empathy over criticism, gentleness over harshness and support over silence.

At Valor Mental Health Foundation, we believe that protecting mental wellbeing is part of protecting life.

💯💯A response I made to a post somewhere on meta… I just feel that we need to know this…

📌 A note on psychiatrist services, particularly on getting assessed and starting treatment. I hope this will be educational and hopefully give someone hope.
Psychiatrists are specialists in mental health, however they are not the only medical doctors who can prescribe medications for mental health disorders.
General practitioners and family physicians are also qualified to assess and treat.
Any ‘complicated’ cases will definitely be referred to a psychiatrist, but majority of depression or anxiety disorders can be managed at primary care level. That is in clinics and ‘smaller’ hospitals.

If you are in need of services and you are thinking you might need treatment, definitely do check those professionals I have highlighted.
💚
This is not to discourage those looking to specifically be seen by psychiatrists, but to highlight what other options for help are.

I also address this concern in my book Your Mental Health Matters

The book was written precisely to fill a knowledge gap among non medical doctors.
Health education saves lives… 💚💚🫡

Baa re bua bua. 🙆🏾‍♀️🙆🏾‍♀️

Apparently, second‑born sons are statistically more likely to stir up chaos at home. Yep, that “Why is everything broken?” kid? There’s a study for that. 😅

Turns out it’s partly because firstborns hog the spotlight, so the second kid is like: “Fine, if you won’t notice me, I’ll notice myself… loudly.” 🥳

Parents, brace yourselves. Second-borns aren’t evil, just… creatively disruptive. And siblings, don’t worry - being the middle/youngest means your messiness is basically research-backed entertainment.
