A little Labor Day reminder to make room for play. ✨
There’s a certain kind of freedom that happens when you step away from your everyday life, land somewhere extraordinary, and share it with really good humans.
Of course, we can’t do that every day. Sometimes, for me, it’s simply heading to a yoga class, stepping outside, turning up the music, or finding a reason to laugh.
More laughter. More wonder. More wildness. More you.
This is why I retreat. 🤍

✨ WILD SERENITY | Lions
I’ve been swimming in these memories.
The connections we made. The absolute awe. The presence that came from being in Zimbabwe and Botswana.
Most of our big cat sightings happened on our mobile safari in Savuti, where the retreat took a deeper turn into trust and adventure. We stepped out of our comfort zones and into tents in the middle of the bush, our trusted guides and team safely guiding us every step of the way.
As a group, we traveled in three vehicles, but each day we were bonded by an intention.
On our first drive, our intention was to see big cats. And we saw them.
The next morning, we got a little more specific: we wanted to see a male lion with his magnificent mane. And there he was. Another blessing.
On our final drive of the mobile safari, whispers of a new intention were bubbling up. We had already seen so much. Our cups were full. But how amazing would it be to find the pride of eight we’d been hearing about?
And lo and behold, we rolled right into a scene of not eight, but TEN lions — almost cinematically positioned across the vast landscape, slowly closing in on a group of impalas.
Off to the side, a lion and lioness were snuggling. He tried to poke at her to play. She promptly swatted him down. 😂 She was getting her rest.
So they settled back down, facing each other, all paws touching.
The intensity. The gentleness. The wildness of it all.
There is something deeply humbling about being this close to nature. Awe takes over. We become quiet. The noise in our heads softens. And for a moment, we are released from the trance of distraction.
At the heart of yoga is the teaching found in the second Yoga Sutra of Patanjali: Yoga is the quieting of the chattering mind.
It’s here with the lions.
I feel forever changed by this experience, and I will always be grateful for the people who said yes and came all the way to Africa to share it with me.
I love you. Keep going. ❤️
More Wild Serenity to come.
Return to Wonder. 🦁

“Imagine a circle of compassion.
Then imagine nobody standing outside of that circle.”
— Father Greg Boyle
Founder of Homeboy Industries
Last week, I visited Homeboy Industries in downtown Los Angeles and was blown away by the palpable energy there. It is alive with togetherness, power, resiliency, and vulnerability.
Founded by Father Greg Boyle, Homeboy Industries is the largest gang rehabilitation and re-entry program in the world, providing support, job training, mental health services, healing, and commUNITY for people seeking a new path forward.
The incredible resources created there bridge a massive and life-threatening divide. The solution?
1. See the unshakeable goodness in others.
2. We belong to each other.

Love filled the gardens.
A celebration of love. A feast for the senses. A weekend overflowing with beauty, color, music, tradition, and joy.
I’ve been friends with Lauren since our New York City days in 1999, and it was such a gift to witness her marry Rohit surrounded by so much love. ❤️
These are a few moments from a truly unforgettable celebration — one that reminded me that love, when shared in community, becomes something even greater.
Congratulations, and Rohit. ❤️✨

Sweet 16 ✨
Celebrating 16 years of sobriety today — the gift that keeps unfolding.
I’m with family today and reminded how they truly had no idea I had a problem. I was so good at hiding in plain sight. I was what they call a periodic drinker — I could “take a break,” do a cleanse, dry January, all of it… only to return to an inevitable f**k it round, waking to that familiar dread and shame.
The absolute freedom of never coming close to that again is priceless.
I had already been teaching yoga full time for seven years before I got sober. I didn’t want anyone to know what was really going on — and for the most part, they didn’t. But inside, there was always a lingering sense of imposter syndrome.
I thought what I was chasing was a feeling of ease — that soft exhale after a drink or two. But it too often followed with too much, which followed with regret, and then the familiar scramble toward self-forgiveness just to move through the cycle again.
So on some level, what I was really chasing was a way to love myself and to finally meet myself there.
Sixteen years later, I’m profoundly grateful for each and every person who has been a support along the way. 🤍
If you’re struggling, please reach out to me or someone you trust. Addiction wants you alone at the very moment you need connection most — and you are not alone. You are loved even when the mind doesn’t know it.
I love you. Keep going.
