According to the World Health Organization (WHO) Weekly External Situation Report 15 (as of August 23, 2026), here is the latest data on the ongoing Ebola disease outbreak:

Democratic Republic of Congo: 5,584 confirmed cases | 2,680 confirmed deaths

Uganda: 20 confirmed cases | 2 confirmed deaths

France: 1 confirmed case | 0 confirmed deaths

Looking at our latest surveillance map, several districts are currently under ACTION and ALERT thresholds.

Wash hands frequently: Use clean running water and soap, especially before eating, preparing food, and after using the restroom.

Treat your water: Boil water or use safe treatment options before drinking or cooking if your supply is unverified.

Safe storage: Keep your drinking water in clean, covered containers to avoid contamination.

Recognize dehydration: Look out for extreme thirst, dry mouth, dark urine, or lethargyโ€”especially in young children.

Two malaria cases are recorded with no deaths, and the country remains on action. Influenza-like illness (ILI) remains the most frequently reported syndrome nationally, with 8,052 cases - a 0.4% increase from the previous week - and is under control. Diarrhoea with dehydration increases by 76% to 111 cases with no deaths, and nationally it is under control.

Ten chickenpox cases are reported from Serowe and North West, and the condition is under control. Regionally, WHO data as of 09 August 2026 show 4,381 confirmed Ebola (Bundibugyo virus disease) cases and 2,011 deaths in DRC, 20 cases and 2 deaths in Uganda, and 1 case in France.
