Last Friday May 29, 2026, the Ministry of Health and Wellness and the World Health Organization successfully hosted the National Youth To***co Forum 2026 at the Grand Resort and Residences in Belize City.

The forum formed part of Belize’s commemoration of World No To***co Day, observed annually on May 31, and was held under the global theme “Unmasking the appeal – countering ni****ne and to***co addiction”

The event brought together young leaders, students, high school counsellors, and stakeholders from across the country to discuss the impact of to***co and ni****ne products on health, the environment, and society. Through engaging presentations, panel discussions, and youth-led dialogue, participants explored ways to protect their generation from the harmful influences of the to***co and ni****ne industry. The forum was live streamed via the Ministry of Health and Wellness page.

The conversation continues as the Youth To***co Forum travels across Belize, providing opportunities for more young people to learn, engage, and become advocates for a to***co-free future.
Local forums will be held in all districts: Corozal Town and Orange Walk Town in June and Cayo, Dangriga and Punta Gorda in September when schools reopen.

We encourage youth, educators, community leaders, and stakeholders to join us as we continue strengthening youth advocacy and promoting healthier communities throughout Belize.

PRESS RELEASE

Ministry of Health and Wellness Advisory on Ebola

Belmopan, May 29, 2026.

The Ministry of Health and Wellness (MOHW) advises the public and travelers at all ports of entry that Belize is initiating heightened public health vigilance in response to the ongoing Ebola outbreak affecting parts of East and Central Africa. While no suspected cases have been identified in Belize, the MOHW is ensuring that precautionary measures at points of entry are initiated to protect the population’s health.

Ebola is a rare viral disease that is often fatal to humans. It spreads through direct contact with the blood or body fluids of a person who is sick with or has died from Ebola disease. The incubation period ranges from 2 to 21 days. Symptoms usually begin with fever, severe tiredness, muscle pain, headache, and sore throat, followed by vomiting, diarrhoea, abdominal pain, unexplained bleeding, and rash.

The risk to the public at this time is low; however, the MOHW is coordinating with the Belize Airport Authority, border management, immigration, customs, civil aviation, cruise lines, and airline partners to strengthen screening and response procedures at airports, land borders, and seaports.

Travelers are encouraged to provide accurate information regarding recent travel to border officials. Travelers who are able to self-isolate are encouraged to do so. Anyone who has traveled from affected areas and develops symptoms should immediately contact MOHW at 0-800-MOH-CARE. Persons with symptoms must avoid close contact with others while seeking medical attention.

The Ministry is monitoring the international situation closely and will continue to provide updates as needed.

For further information or concerns, please contact 0-800-MOH-CARE.

Throughout his career, he helped save and improve countless lives, leaving behind a legacy of service that will never be forgotten.

His passing is a tremendous loss not only to the medical community, but to the nation as a whole. Belize has lost a man who dedicated his life to the wellbeing of others and to the service of country.

The Ministry extends its deepest condolences to his family, friends, colleagues, and all those mourning this tragic loss during this difficult time.
