Sometimes this is what we look like from the outside.
Still. Calm. Present.
And inside, there can be an entire storm happening that no one sees.

This touches on some heavy conversations on motherhood. If you’re in a tender place today, please feel free to keep scrolling.

Motherhood has been on my mind a lot this week. Everything I’ve been reading online has felt incredibly heavy, and it’s made me think about the mothers I see around me every day.
Mothers who love their children fiercely. Who work, run businesses, manage households, remember everything, care for everyone and somehow keep going.
So much of what mothers carry is invisible. The appointments. The meals. The emails. The driving. The schedules. The finances. The relationships. The endless remembering everything for everyone. 🥹
And then trying to have a career, maintain friendships, be a partner, take care of yourself and somehow feel like you’re doing all of it well.
Sometimes it isn’t even the children that feel overwhelming. It’s ALL THE THINGS.
And then add postpartum depression, perimenopause, exhaustion, ADHD, mental health struggles or simply the weight of life into the mix. It can be A LOT.
You can love your children with every ounce of your heart and still feel completely overwhelmed. You can be incredibly grateful for your life and still have days where it feels incredibly heavy.
You can lose your patience. Not have the energy to be fun. Feel overstimulated and desperately need everyone to stop needing something from you for a minute.
And then comes the guilt.
Because we love them so much, we feel like we should be able to do better.
Things can be incredible and still be hard. Both can be true.
I don’t say this as a complaint. I say it because I see it. I see it in myself, in my friends and in the mothers around me who are doing SO much, often without anyone realizing just how much they are carrying.
Maybe we need to get better at seeing the mother behind everything she is holding together.
Maybe it’s time we recreate the village. The community. The unconditional support.
Not just for our children.
For us mamas, too
