Hike 10: Reveler Conservation Area

We might be at the tail end of fall colours but there is still plenty to be captured, like at Reveler, which is nothing but GOLDEN at the moment.

Enjoy this trail now, or bookmark for spring, when the wildflowers and butterflies are out.

• 3.5kms of trails, marked at intersections
• 100 acre property
• Benches located throughout
• Picnic tables at trailhead

Hike 9: Sarsaparilla Trail (NCC Trail 22)

Located in the Stony Swamp section, this shorter loop trail is a local favourite. It also made for a great stop while I was in the city today, but too short on time for any longer hikes. The trees were vibrant and there were plenty of birds to observe.

• 900m loop trail, well marked
• Flat and wide trails
• Wheelchair accessible lookout ♿️
• Benches located throughout
• Picnic tables at the gazebo

🛑🐶 No dogs permitted on this trail.

🚽 Outhouse along the trail, and close to parking lot

🅿️ Decent sized gravel parking lot that can fit 5-6 vehicles

Hike 8: Railway Creek Nature Reserve

Have you hiked this trail? It opened in 2024 so it’s a newer one out in Hastings County. This was the first time I had the chance to hike it myself and I have to say, I really enjoyed it.

It was peaceful, diverse in scenery, and a darn good hike.

These trails are marked with green arrows, but I’d love to see more markers up as it’s easy to get turned around on this trail. If you don’t see the next arrow, look for the next bench, infographic, or orange tape on a tree.

Navigation, and fully charged cellphone and back up battery are recommended for this hike.

You hike this one clockwise, and if you end up at the gate instead of the trailhead at the end, either turn back or simply make a left on Bannockburn road and walk 400m until you see the trailhead and parking lot.

• 1 loop trail, roughly 4kms
• Some sections are rugged
• Wheelchair accessible lookout ♿️
• Picnic tables at lookout
• Benches located throughout

🐶 Dogs are welcome on the trails on-leash

🚽 No toilets on site, follow leave no trace guidelines

Hike 7: Lennox & Addington Forest Trails

This is where you go to breath in the smell of the forest feel at ease.

Yes, these are also mountain bike trails, but if you go during the weekdays when there’s less folks, less bikes (if any), and it’s easy to enjoy.

These trails are extremely well marked and have little to no elevation gain - again, it’s a no stress hike.

• 7 trails, roughly 10kms total
• Some trails are rugged
• Fun named sections and points of interest
• Benches located throughout
• Bike self-repair station at trailhead
• Portapotty at trailhead

🐶 Dogs are welcome on the trails on-leash

🅿️ Large paved parking lot at township office located at 72 Edward Street, Flinton. You can park there and walk over to the trailhead which is visible from the parking lot.

Hike 6:Palmerston Canonto Conservation Area

This has been one of my go-to trails for years now, because it was everything that I enjoy most with nature.

• 7 trails, roughly 6kms total
• Trails are rugged and well marked
• Two large vista viewpoints
• Diverse flora and fauna
• Nearby beach

🐶 Dogs are welcome on the trails on-leash

🅿️ Large parking lot at trailhead that also serves as a boat launch so please park in a manner that allows people enough room to get their boats in.

⚠️ Parking lot is currently under construction, there is room for 3 vehicles to park along the side of the road in meanwhile.

The 2026 goal is to reach over $30,000.

Since 2020, I’ve been able to donate just over $27,000 to mental health and conservation charities. Primarily to dp lopez and Mississippi Madawaska Land Trust

$40/month is donated to Tree Canada / Arbres Canada.

I’ve also donated to CHEO, SickKids, and Wounded Warriors Canada .

You already know that I’m huge fan of Somewhere Inn in Calabogie, not only are they my go-to stay in the area but they’ve become friends over the years.

Because they’re good humans.

And Somewhere Inn is a darn good stay.

Besides the comfortable rooms…they have a lounge, sauna, cold plunge, outdoor fire pit, hammocks, a fantastic w**e and b**r selection, and the best merch.

🤩 And the trails…

• Manitou Mountain, while Eagles Nest is the highlight for many, a greater challenge and less trafficked hike is to park at the Barrett Chute Rd lot and hike Manitou Mountain trail to enjoy five different lookouts.

• Blueberry Mountain is a 5km trail that is clearly marked, easy to hike, with the last 100m offering steep elevation gain to the lookout. The view over the valley is spectacular and you can even spot Manitou Mountain in the distance.

• K&P Trail is a multi-use, shared trail that runs from Kingston to Pembroke.

• Madawaska Nordic Trail is an 18km trail. You can access the trailhead from behind peaks village, across from the ski hill.

• Dacre Heights is an old ski hill that is now private land that’s open to the public. A fun options to hike up and ski down in the winter months.

• Limestone/Wabun Lake: Choose from either an under 4km out and back to the lookout or 18km full loop of Limestone and Wabun Lake. Access from Hydro Dam Rd then Wabun Lake Rd. This is a shared use trail (mountain bikers, motorsports, hunting), is mostly unmarked, but relatively easy to follow. ⚠️ Important info for this trail in article link below!

• Griffith Uplands is a 10kms trail with multiple peaks and view points. It’s loosely mark and just like Wabun Lake, this trail requires extra precautions. ⚠️ Important info for this trail in article link below!

Other activities in the area? Geocaching, fishing, cycling, skiing, motorsports, etc. More information available through the Township of Greater Madawaska.

Hike 5: The K&P Rail Trail

Who’s hiked sections, or the whole, of our famous “Kick & Push” trail?

It’s been a gorgeous fall, it’s hard not to squeeze in hikes where we can. 🙂 For me, that includes stoping before work on trails like this one.

“The rail line was only built as far north as Renfrew, despite its name. The “Providence” took an inaugural journey on June 17, 1875 from Kingston and traveled to Sharbot Lake. Passenger service brought people to downtown Kingston. Passengers would arrive at the K&P Station (now the Kingston Tourist Bureau). Freight trains brought ore and timber to Kingston’s Inner Harbour and industrial works yards on Ontario Street. Rail access to downtown ended in 1974.” - City of Kingston

• K&P Rail Trail = The old Kingston & Pembroke Railway
• 180 km multiple use trail
• Runs through Kingston, Frontenac County, Renfrew County

Hike 4: Eagle’s Nest

A classic hike that’s enjoyed by so many. We passed a rock climbing class, families enjoying the day, and groups of friends getting some fun(ny) pictures.

• 3km out and back trail
• 120m cliff
• fantastic vista views

When it comes to catching fall colours, most of us think about lookouts and towers, but marshes and boardwalks are also spectacular in the fall!

• 180 kms of trails (many multi-use trails)
• 6092-hectare community forest
