We would like to take another opportunity to thank one of our tremendous community sponsors, without whom the Antigonish Highland Games wouldn't be possible. Today we would like to thank Whidden Park Campground and Cottages, a staple of our tourism who has provided visitors to our community with a beautiful campground that is conveniently located right in the middle of town. To Whidden Park we extend a huge THANK YOU!!!

In business since 1961, Whidden Park has gone through many changes over the years to pass the test of time.

Whidden Park’s grounds were once the farmland of Albert and Isabel Whidden. Fields of hay, rhubarb and other produce were grown and harvested from the same earth on which guests now put up tents and park their RVs.

It was in 1961 that Park founder, Albert E. Whidden, decided to try something new. At first, he rented a few small sections of his fields to tourists who were passing by on their way to and from Cape Breton. His new campground was very soon in high demand so more and more of the farm was converted into camping lots.

Whidden Park now covers all of the remaining farmland, totaling 15 acres in all. The big barn, located near the entrance of the Park, is the last remaining indication that the farm was once here. Beautiful mature trees have replaced the open fields of old, and the crops which were once grown and harvested have been replaced with expansive lawns of grass. Despite these changes, the natural beauty of the area remains intact. The Brierly Brook still trickles along, winding its way though the Park and the abundant greenery makes it hard to believe you’re right downtown!

A lot has changed in the 60+ years we’ve been in business and we invite you to come see what people have been talking about for generations!
