June is National Indigenous History Month in Canada, a time to recognize the rich history, heritage and diversity of First Nations, Inuit and Métis.

Our station is based out of Whitefish Lake First Nation #459! They are a Cree community part of the Kee Tas Kee Now Tribal Council, and Treaty 8 First Nations.

National EMS appreciation week would not be complete without celebrating our Supervisor & Station Manager, Meghan Halas!

Meghan is a Primary Care Paramedic and has been with North Alta Whitehawk EMS for almost 17 years!

Day and night she supports, uplifts and advocates for our crew, patients and community. Meghan is an integral part of our service & our crews would not be able to provide high quality care without her exemplary leadership and guidance!

Congratulations to our Primary Care Paramedic, Rikki Hughes, on receiving an Alberta Emergency Medical Services Medal for 12 years of service!

Rikki started as an industrial EMR before becoming a P*P and joining North Alta Whitehawk EMS! She is also trained as a First Aid Instructor.

We are proud to have Rikki as a part of our crew!

Emergency Preparedness Week is here! This year, the theme focuses on making community connections. When emergencies happen, we are “In It Together.”

Emergencies can happen anywhere at any time. The most immediate help during an emergency will come from those around you—your community.

Making community connections today means that when disruptions occur, big or small, you and your community can work together to have a better response and faster recovery.

Congratulations to our Primary Care Paramedic, Helena Gonzalez, on receiving an Alberta Emergency Medical Services Medal for 12 years of service!

In addition to working at North Alta Helena has also worked as a flight P*P, worked AHS metro, was a part of the Fort McMurray Evacuation Team, went to Uganda as a Canadian EMS instructor/team, was the Atikameg COVID response team lead and an Atikameg Evacuation Coodinator.

Helena also is North Alta’s Learning & Development Staff Instructor, a preceptor for P*P students, EMR/MFR instructor at NAIT, First Aid & BLS instructor, on Atikameg’s flu clinic team, works as a dispatcher/call taker with CCC and is currently in school to become a social worker with a minor in psychology!

We are proud to have Helena as a part of our crew!
