Have you heard of the Good Samaritan Drug Overdose Act?

The Good Samaritan Drug Overdose Act provides some legal protection for people who experience or witness an overdose and call 911 or their local emergency number for help.
This means community members, including youth, will not be charged for offences such as simple possession for calling 911 in an emergency.

All frontline APS officers carry naloxone; we just want to assist.

Removing the stigma. Stabilizing clients in need.
Eliminating barriers to access for anyone seeking addictions-related support, the Rapid Access Addiction Medicine (RAAM) Clinic welcomes all community members..in a confidential, safe and non-judgmental space for quick access to specialized addiction services in a healing environment.

The overall goal is to stabilize patients in the short term and subsequently link them to community care providers for ongoing monitoring, support, and rehabilitation of their substance use disorder.

With a focus on our clients’ needs, our clinic’s approach to wellness is based on evidence in the field intended to mitigate substance use-related harms through accessible care. Our process includes fast access to medication-assisted therapy for alcohol and opioid use disorders. With support from the St. Joseph’s Care Group’s regional RAAM program, we provide a safe space where patients can get help from physicians, nurses and nurse practitioners, addictions counselors and peer support workers.

Please note that the RAAM clinic is not a medical detox, and does not offer acute withdrawal services for alcohol use.
