A significant increase in overdoses have been reported in our community in the last 24 hours. They are suspected to be linked to two different batches of “down” currently being sold on the street. One batch is described as green, while the other is a pale yellow.

If you use substances:
• Get your drugs tested
• Don't use alone
• Carry naloxone

“A yellow sample presumed to be fentanyl tested pos for Cychlorphine, a newer synthetic opioid believed to be ten times stronger than fentanyl. Using higher potency opioids greatly increases the risk of overdose. Do not use alone, carry naloxone, use a small test dose, and get your drugs tested whenever possible. We have issued a drug alert due to 11 non-fatal drug poisonings/overdoses reported in a single day in Kenora.

If you suspect an overdose, call 911 immediately.

• Don’t use alone – buddy up and stagger use.

• Download and use the Lifeguard app from LifeguardDH.com or call NORS at 1-888-688-6677.

• Have naloxone with you and know how to use it.

• Test your drugs. Drug testing strips are available at NWHU offices.
