Why Barrhead? - Healthcare Professional Profiles
Part 1 | Meet Suki Famobio
A pharmacy counter can be a quick stop in a busy day.
It can also be the place where someone finally asks the question they have been carrying, checks on a concern, or hears the explanation that helps them feel a little more steady about their care.
For Suki Famobio, those everyday moments are part of how Barrhead has become different from the larger centres where he worked before.
Suki is a pharmacist and pharmacy manager in Barrhead, and we are pleased to introduce him as part of BARC’s “Why Barrhead?” Healthcare Professional Profile series.
He graduated from Obafemi Awolowo University in Nigeria and later completed a Master of Science degree in Microbiology at the University of Manitoba. His career has taken him through larger communities, but his work in Barrhead has offered something more personal.
Before practicing here, Suki says he did not have the same opportunity to know his patients as well. Barrhead has been different.
Here, he has built stronger relationships with the people he serves. He knows and remembers names. In return, patients have developed trust in the care he and his team provide.
When Suki talks about that team, he is quick to include the people around him. Together, their goal is to make sure patients are heard, valued, and have their concerns addressed — even when that means advocating on their behalf.
Why Barrhead?
For Suki, part of the answer begins there.
In a smaller community, healthcare often grows through steady, familiar moments. A prescription may bring someone through the door. A question may follow. A concern may surface. And sometimes, the most important part of the visit is that someone takes the time to listen and help find the next step.
Over the next few days, we’ll share more from Suki’s story: what he values about rural healthcare, how the role of pharmacists continues to grow, and what he enjoys about life in Barrhead outside of work.
For today, we are pleased to introduce Suki Famobio — a healthcare professional whose Barrhead story begins with skill, service, teamwork, and the simple comfort of being known by name.
