Some babies may settle more easily in a bassinet or crib with dad because they often associate mom with feeding, comfort, and close physical contact, especially if they are breastfed. Babies can recognize their mother’s scent and may become more alert or seek feeding when she is nearby. Dad’s presence may sometimes be less stimulating because there is no expectation of nursing, which can make it easier for some babies to accept being put down to sleep. However, every baby is different, and many babies settle equally well or even better with their mother. Factors such as temperament, age, feeding method, sleep habits, and each parent’s soothing style can all influence how easily a baby falls asleep.

I’ve supported a lot of births, but twin births are their own unique adventure. More moving parts, more anticipation, more teamwork - and apparently a new level of exhaustion I didn’t know existed. Worth every second, but wow, I’m tired!

ᴄᴏɴᴛʀᴀᴄᴛɪᴏɴ ᴄᴏᴀᴄʜ ❤️‍🔥
Being a doula is so much more than showing up when labour begins. It’s building a relationship with families long before they meet their baby, learning their hopes, fears, and what support looks like for them. As a contraction coach, I’m constantly reading the room—offering encouragement, suggesting comfort measures, helping partners feel confident, and reminding moms of their strength when they begin to doubt it.

Some moments are quiet and gentle, while others require steady reassurance through hours of intense labour. It’s knowing when to speak, when to listen, and when to simply be a calm presence. It’s celebrating the small victories, witnessing incredible strength, and having a front-row seat to one of the most transformative days in a family’s life. Every birth is different, but what never changes is the privilege of being trusted to walk alongside families as they welcome their baby into the world. It’s a responsibility I carry with gratitude and an honour I never take lightly. 🤍

Supported a birth for 17 hours on one hour of sleep, then came home to tiny humans who couldn’t care less about my heroic efforts. No one asked how many contractions I coached through—they just wanted snacks, cuddles, and for me to find a missing toy immediately. Motherhood is wild because you can witness a baby being born at sunrise and still be negotiating over why we can’t have popsicles for dinner by supper time. Running on caffeine, chaos, and a questionable amount of patience.
Is there anyone else or just me?

Motherhood is realizing that a hot coffee, a solo bathroom break, and everyone making it to bedtime counts as a successful day.

One of the most bittersweet moments in this work is realizing my role has been fulfilled.
We’ve spent months preparing together through prenatal education, walked side by side through the birth of their baby, and shared those precious postpartum visits as they settled into life as a new family.
At some point, I leave knowing they no longer need my support in the same way they once did. It’s a beautiful reminder that my job was never to be needed forever-it was to help them feel confident, supported, and ready for this next chapter on their own. 🤍

One of the sweetest parts of this work is when you instantly click with a client. What starts as a consultation quickly feels like talking with an old friend, and the trust, comfort, and connection that grows from there makes supporting their journey even more meaningful. 🤍

One of the things I am most grateful for in this work is being invited into such a sacred moment in a family’s story. No matter how many births I attend, each one is completely unique-the emotions, the challenges, the triumphs, the people, and the little moments that unfold along the way.

From the outside, the stories and testimonies I share may sound similar, but being present for each one is anything but. Every family leaves a different imprint on my heart, and every birth reminds me why I love this work so deeply. It is an incredible honour to walk alongside parents as they welcome their babies into the world, and it is a privilege I never take for granted. 🤍

When Toy Story was released, I was just entering the world.

By the time Toy Story 2 came out, I was stepping onto a stage for my very first dance recital, unaware of all the chapters that life still had waiting for me.

When Toy Story 3 was released, I was in Grade 10, dreaming about the future and wondering who I would become.

By the time Toy Story 4 came around, I was standing at the altar, beginning a new life with the man I love and closing the chapter on the girl I once was.

And now, as Toy Story 5 is released, I find myself holding the hands of my two daughters, supporting families through birth as a doula, and living a life I never could have imagined back when I was that little girl on stage.

Somewhere between these movies, countless versions of me have come and gone. I’ve been a daughter, a dancer, a student, a wife, a mother, and now a woman privileged to walk alongside others as they welcome their babies into the world. Dreams changed, chapters closed, new ones began, and life unfolded in ways I never could have planned. Looking back, I’m reminded that every season—both the beautiful and the difficult—was quietly leading me here, to a life filled with purpose, love, and the greatest gift of all: watching my own little girls grow. 🤎💛💙 🤍💜💚

Between the release of Toy Story and Toy Story 5, I grew up, got married, and became a mother to two beautiful little girls. It’s funny how a movie can make you realize just how much life can change in what feels like the blink of an eye. Now I get to experience the magic all over again through their eyes, and somehow it means even more than it did the first time around. 🤎💛💙 🤍💜💚
