Some babies may settle more easily in a bassinet or crib with dad because they often associate mom with feeding, comfort, and close physical contact, especially if they are breastfed. Babies can recognize their motherβs scent and may become more alert or seek feeding when she is nearby. Dadβs presence may sometimes be less stimulating because there is no expectation of nursing, which can make it easier for some babies to accept being put down to sleep. However, every baby is different, and many babies settle equally well or even better with their mother. Factors such as temperament, age, feeding method, sleep habits, and each parentβs soothing style can all influence how easily a baby falls asleep.
