We have lots of flowers growing on the property. Some of them are edible to us while all of them are consumable to bees. They love the pollen and nectar from Sunflower, hollyhock and poppy right now.

Our edible flowers this week contain: bean blooms, calendula, pansy, black hollyhock, sunflower petals and dahlia.

The bees from this hive said we could have one frame of honey this year. So that’s all we’re talking.

I’m experimenting with a more natural mite control via swarming. No organic and definitely not ever synthetic miticides. Just their natural defence against such pesky A-holes.

I’m also not adding super after super, expanding the hive to huge towers. Just keeping them compact in two boxes. I imagine they will want to swarm early next year which will be perfect time to manage the mite loads with this swarming technique.
