These before & after photos weren't created by one treatment β€” and they didn't happen overnight. They also show realistic treatment outcomes for rosacea.

Rosacea is a chronic skin condition, which means management is typically ongoing. Rather than expecting complete resolution of redness and sensitivity, a more realistic goal is to reduce symptoms, support the skin barrier and improve how the skin looks and feels over time.

This client's journey has spanned several years. During that time, we've incorporated a small number of in-clinic treatments, including chemical peels and laser treatments, when appropriate for her skin.

But the biggest contributor to the change you see here?
What she does at home, twice a day, every day.
Her skincare routine uses carefully selected medical-grade products tailored to her individual skin concerns and sensitivity β€” and her consistency has made all the difference.

In-clinic treatments can be valuable tools, but they're only occasional interventions. Your skincare routine has the opportunity to support your skin 365 days a year.

Rosacea still requires ongoing management. Flare-ups can still happen. Redness may still be present.
The goal isn't perfect skin or a quick fix.
It's calmer, less reactive skin β€” and a routine that helps keep it that way.

Before & after photos shared with client permission. Individual results vary.

β€œWho is providing my care?”
This is an incredibly important question for prospective aesthetic patients to ask.
Not every member of your care team is a nurse β€” and each brings different expertise to your experience. Let’s talk about Laura’s multifaceted role at Retroderm.

As our Office Manager, Certified Laser Technician and Certified Piercer, Laura is both an experienced treatment provider and the person who helps keep our clinic running smoothly every day.

⚑ When you see Laura for laser treatments, you're being treated by an experienced Certified Laser Technician who brings extensive hands-on experience, technical knowledge and a strong understanding of the technologies she works with.

✨ When you see Laura for a piercing, you're being treated by a Certified Piercer who brings specialized training and experience to the piercing procedure, placement, jewellery selection, infection-prevention practices, education and aftercare.

But there's something else that makes laser and piercing treatments at Retroderm a little different.
We know that fear of pain and anxiety about complications can be significant barriers to having these procedures and that's where our collaborative model of care becomes especially valuable.
When comfort measures are anticipated or when a client fears they are having a complication, our nursing professionals can become involved to assess and support care. This collaborative approach allows us to offer pain-management options and quick access to diagnosis/treatment for post-treatment concerns that are not commonly available through local piercing/laser providers β€” something we're very proud to be able to offer our clients.

Different credentials, scopes and expertise. One team caring for you🀍

Fine lines around the mouth? These aren't necessarily β€œsmoker's lines.”
While smoking can contribute to their development, these lines are also influenced by genetics, repetitive movement from speaking and facial expression, changes in skin quality, sun exposure, volume loss and the natural aging process.
And because they don't all develop for the same reason, there isn't one treatment that's right for everyone.

Depending on what's contributing to the lines, treatment options may include:
β€’ Neuromodulators to address certain patterns of muscle movement
β€’ Dermal filler when volume or structural support is a factor
β€’ Resurfacing treatments to improve skin quality
β€’ Skincare to support the health and quality of the skin over time
Often, the best approach involves more than one strategy β€” and lifestyle, anatomy, skin quality, treatment goals and tolerance for downtime all matter when deciding what is appropriate.

The client shown in these before & after photos has been working on her skin quality both in the clinic and consistently at home. Her results reflect an ongoing approach rather than a single treatment or quick fix.

Your piercing is healed β€” but does your jewelry need to be changed? πŸ‘€

These photos show my own daith piercing, originally done two years ago. When the finish on the jewelry began to wear, I started experiencing redness and inflammation around the piercing site.
After changing the jewelry, the irritation quickly settled.

Even a well-healed piercing can become irritated by worn or damaged jewelry, unsuitable materials, improper fit or changes to the surrounding tissue.

If a previously happy piercing suddenly becomes irritated, don't just assume the piercing is the problem β€” have the jewelry checked too.

Not every skin lesion should be removed cosmetically β€” and knowing when not to treat is important.
At Retroderm, we offer cosmetic removal of appropriately assessed benign skin lesions using our Plexr plasma device. Plexr allows us to precisely target lesional tissue while limiting impact of the surrounding healthy skin.

But before we talk about removal, we need to talk about assessment.

Our Nurse Practitioner examines each lesion, including assessment with a dermatoscope, before determining whether cosmetic treatment can be considered. If a lesion has characteristics that are abnormal, concerning or require diagnosis through biopsy, we don't treat it. Instead, we recommend assessment and/or referral through your primary care provider.

It's also important to understand our scope: our cosmetic lesion-removal service does not replace the expertise or services of dermatology or plastic surgery. Dermoscopy can provide additional information during our assessment, but our NP's assessment is not equivalent to the specialized expertise of a dermatologist.

And even when a lesion is appropriate for cosmetic removal, treatment isn't risk-free.

As you can see in these before & after images, residual redness can be part of the healing process. Changes in pigmentation, including darkening or lightening, can also occur, along with other potential complications.

Sometimes the appropriate treatment is Plexr.
Sometimes it's referral.
And sometimes it's leaving the lesion alone.
The first priority is determining which is appropriate for you.

"Who is providing my care?"
This is an incredibly important question for prospective aesthetic patients to ask.
Let's talk about our Registered Nurse.

When you have an appointment with Isabelle Scarapicchia, RN, you'll see an experienced aesthetic nurse confidently assessing your concerns, developing a treatment plan and providing your treatment.

What may be less visible is the clinical collaboration that supports her practice.
When Isabelle joined Retroderm, she voluntarily completed a full year of mentorship with our Nurse Practitioner, before transitioning into the level of independence you see in her practice today. That mentorship went far beyond learning how to perform aesthetic procedures. It focused on developing the clinical judgment behind them β€” comprehensive assessment, treatment selection and planning, recognizing contraindications, managing risk and complications, and knowing when additional assessment or consultation is appropriate.

Today, Isabelle brings that experience, along with her own knowledge, expertise and professional judgment, to every appointment where she is independently accountable for the nursing care she provides.
But independent nursing practice doesn't mean practising in isolation.
While clients see autonomous RN practice within the appropriate medical directives/orders established by our Nurse Practitioner, collaboration on every case is happening behind the scenes. This isn't because Isabelle lacks the confidence or competence to manage your care but rather to maintain role responsibilities for professional nursing practice and to provide one full team caring for you. 🀍

Please join us in welcoming Quinn to Retroderm! 🀍

Quinn has joined our team as our Junior Receptionist, helping support the day-to-day experience of our clients and work of our team.

You may see Quinn helping at reception, keeping our space tidy or connect with her when you arrive at the clinic. She’ll also be lending a hand with technology and social media β€” two areas where the rest of us are very happy to accept her generational expertise πŸ˜‰

We’re so happy to have her with us and we look forward to her meeting all of you!

"Who is providing my care?"
This is an incredibly important question for prospective aesthetic patients to ask.

Let's start with our Nurse Practitioner.

You may have noticed that our owner and Nurse Practitioner is listed as Hali Sitarz, NP, PhD β€” but in the clinic, you won’t hear her introduce herself as β€œDr. Sitarz.”
There’s an important reason for that.

NP = Nurse Practitioner
As a Nurse Practitioner, Hali is a registered nurse with advanced education and an expanded scope of practice that includes health assessment, diagnosis, ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests, prescribing medications, and providing treatment.
In clinical practice at Retroderm, NP is the professional designation that identifies her role as your health-care provider.

PhD = Doctor of Philosophy
A PhD is a doctoral-level academic degree and represents advanced education in research, scholarship and the development of knowledge.
Hali holds a PhD in Nursing β€” but a PhD is not a medical degree, and having a PhD does not make someone a physician or Medical Doctor (MD).

So why doesn't she use the title β€œDr.” at Retroderm?
In Ontario, the use of the title β€œdoctor” while providing health care is restricted by law to certain regulated health professions. For that reason β€” and, just as importantly, to ensure there is never confusion about who is providing your care β€” academic designations are not used in clinical practice.

We believe credentials should never be confusing and that transparency is part of ethical practice. You deserve to understand the education, qualifications and professional role of the person providing your care.

Stay tuned to hear about the rest of our team 🀍
