June 21st is National Indigenous Peoples Day. We raise our hands in thanks for the many ways we have learned, grown, collaborated, and connected with our Indigenous neighbours from near and far who enrich our lives every day.

As community members of Bowen Island (Nex̱wlélex̱wm) we acknowledge that our community health centre operates on the unceded territory of the Squamish Nation (Skwxwú7mesh Úxwumixw). We recognize the enduring relationships between this land, the Indigenous peoples, and all those who seek care and support within our health centre walls.

As we work towards fostering wellness of both minds and bodies, we commit to building meaningful partnerships grounded in respect, reciprocity, and healing.

Bowen Island Community Health Centre, in partnership with SKY, is helping to implement a new evidence-based online educational tool designed to mitigate your risk of developing dementia or other cognitive decline.

The program and the research behind it have been validated academically, and they are now working on launching the program nation-wide. To better do this, communities across Canada have been selected to offer early access. Bowen Island is the only community in BC chosen for this stage of the process!

Brain Health PRO was created by experts in brain health and aging. The program gives you essential tips on how to keep your brain and cognition healthy as you age, and is structured around seven modifiable risk factors:

· cognitive engagement
· sleep
· vascular health
· social & psychological health
· nutrition
· physical activity
· vision & hearing

The program is designed to take about 6 months to complete, but is self-paced, so you can choose how quickly you move through the modules in your learning journey.

As this is a new program not yet promoted to the broader public, there is a survey that needs to be completed before you begin the program to help their research process in advance of the broader roll out to come.

The Bowen Island Community Health Centre is pleased to promote this independent program and offer this opportunity to our community. However, please note, we do not have any connection or access to the research being conducted, so your participation is entirely confidential.
